Aribeth getting on your nerves?

Post by Silur »

Is it just me? Every time she says something, my skin crawls. I find Aribeth utterly appalling. The things that annoy me are (in no particular order): Her holier-than-thou tone. Her arrogant Im-a-paladin-la-la-la-la-la attitude. The dont-meddle-in-my-business-'cause-I-have-a-license-not-to-listen-to-advice replies when you try to tell her evil things are afoot. Her avatar. Her patronizing way of giving due credit (that is, to me - I'm doing all the work!). Her awful voice. Give me time, and the list will grow longer...

So, what do you think of Aribeth?

She is so naive it must be classfied as stupidity. I don't like her at all. On the contrary, I hope to get an opportunity to get rid of her before this game is over :D

When I first met after the prelude her she said something along the lines of "You were there! You saw the slaughter!" and I immediately thought, "Oh, no! MELISSAN!!!"

Everything she says sounds forced or like she's string words together after the fact.

Ex. "I'm afraid I never got the chance to <fully> introduce myself <at the academy>, <while you were training there>."

I got a little bit tired of her telling me she was a paladin. I was hoping there'd be more "Yes, my name is ____ and I'm a <insert class here> in the name of <insert deity here>," for every time she pulled that.

But she is really, really good looking. Why are the good looking ones always annoying or, pardon me for saying so, but no better word comes to mind, b*tchy. Guess they wanted to make her as realistic as possible.

Frankly I like Linu a lot more. She has far more character depth and is more the way I would want a girl to be.

The woman's hysteria and overly melodramatic manner make me want to strangle her..... :D

I liked the scene near the end of the game. She was still pretty melodramatic, but I thought some of your characters available responses were pretty cool, as were her responses to them.

"Go and meet your fate with honor, Lady Aribeth"

I liked her character. Maybe it was just her plot, because she really does have an annoyingly stilted voice. At times sterile and precise, at other times overly emotional. Most of WHAT she said I liked, it was just the HOW that grated on the nerves at times.

No gripes with her looks. :D

Spoliers....

As a character of lvl 45 (approx) I would slaughter the whole damn city before seeing Fenthick dead. She's plain stupid: she listens to the mob that doesn't know anything anyway, lets Fentick hung and then turns onto the city... I never tried to redempt her...

NO SPOILERS HERE

I find her annoying too. Although there are several annoying NPCs (Fenthick, Desther, that woman in the peninsula with the terrible English accent - to name just a few) and irritating henchmen (Tomi - another horrible accent, Bobbknock - Mr. Spock, Sharwyn - I'm a stereotype *****) Aribeth stands out because she is the 'key' NPC.

Mainly, I dislike her manner of speech. She sounds like a cross between a religious freak and a supermodel trying to act. If she does love Fenthick then it sure doesn't come across.

Second, I hate her appearance. How does the skinny cow manage to carry all that metal armor and wield a longsword? She looks like a picture from a really tacky fantasy novel - revealing armor, 17 inch waist and 38D chest. And what's with the spikey pauldron crap as well - I'd love to tap he on the left shoulder from behind and see her poke her eyes out when she looks round. Talk about an impractical means of defense; maybe her cleavage gives her +4 to hit male opponents (and possibly Linu).

(The above should not be taken too seriously and I regret having to point this out to the more moronic readers of this forum. There was a time when people could be sarcastic/ironic/tongue-in-cheek without having to put - "JOKE" after every paragraph.)

*****

It's funny how "b**ch" is considered a rude word in America whereas "Wanker", "Bugger" and "****head" are completely OK. Odd country.

Oh, OK, so "D*ck" is rude too. I feel sorry for anyone called Richard.

I checked the toolset. Why does Aribeth have weapon focus (longsword) and improved critical (longsword) when she clearly uses a bastard sword? What's the point?

As for the other NPC's, I really didn't like that Lord Nasher dude. He was just plain rude and senile. Maybe that's where Aribeth got her high and mighty attitude.

And then there's Aarin Gend: the bane of female characters looking for romance everywhere. What is up with this guy? They went overboard with him and made the dialogue options worse than something out of Episode II AotC. And you KNOW that those lines are bad...

I missed the good old days romancing Aerie. Yeah, yeah, I know. Everyone complained about how she was whiny and high maintenance but I liked her a lot better than Jaheira (who was REALLY high maintenance) and Vicky who would get you all worked up and then stick a knife in your leg as you bent over to kiss her. With Aerie, you got to have her kid. That was cool. I once played the game with "family only," which is to say me, the PC, Aerie, my wife, my sis, Imoen and Sarevok, my bro. It was really cool. Nowhere in NWN is there anything close to this.

Aribeth just seemed fake by comparison to the storylines behind Aerie, Jaheira and Viconia. The only one who came close was Linu, while still trailing way behind.

Dont diss AoTC, the lines in that movie were more realistic than most and not overly melodramatic or complicated (normal people dont talk like that). Kthxbai fgt. On the subject of Aribeth... she is hot what more do you want =P

Don't get me wrong, I loved AotC. I thought it was a great movie... just not especially for the acting or the romance lines. I only used it as an example because a lot of people were disappointed with how cheesy some of the love lines were.

Aribeth is what we would call at my school a dancer b*itch. Sorry, it's just a common term that everyone uses. Anyway, I go to an arts school so it's divided into mainstream, visual arts, drama, strings, piano, vocal, winds (that's me), and dance.

Stereotypically, the dancers are all really good looking but really prissy, snotty and generally not too bright. There are of course notable exceptions, but if Aribeth went to my school, she wouldn't be one of them.

Aribeth is a beautiful female, an elf, and a paladin. By definition, she HAS to be stuck up!
