Did you see Sportscenter at 6:00 today? They were talking about new players/ players on new teams that have done well so far.
Im impressed with Carr's opening performance, and I think Shockey is exactly what the Giants were looking for in a TE.

Shockey is a very physical player, I like the kid a lot, too bad he plays for the Giants. I also wonder what Spurrier is trying to pull. Everyone know's wuerffel (sp) will be starting opening day. Who does he think he's fooling?

Last I heard, I don't think Harrington is gonna be playing much this year, they seem to be leaning toward McMahon.

**wakes up on the floor of the tavern....next to a battle axe**

Ah, my take on the football season. Well, I clearly see the dominance of the league shifting to the AFC, after a long drought. I think the season will be a tad odd, with the new division assignments. The NFC central is now the NFC central and it is going to go from one of the best to one of the worst.

The Lions will be as tragic as ever.
Everyone will be ready for the Bears although I still expect good things from the defense and Atrain (9-7)
One of my teams, the Pack, are going to be awful. They are so dead in the receiver position, I see very bad things happening even though their schedule favors the running game. (6-10)
The Vikes...who knows, I live here and I hate them. Personally, another 5-11 season would suit me just fine. Trust me, they won't be able to stop anybody. I suspect Culpepper will face injury again and by week 7, Moss will be whining incessantly again. (7-9)

How sad the bears will win the division at 9-7. Truly going from one of the strongest to one of the weakest. The depature of the bucs also hurts the caliber of play.

my sleeper picks this year are the Browns, the Bills, and the Cowboys.

The Bills - Bledsoe will find renewed vigor with a fairly decent club. An above average defense and an offense that finally has a QB. If your a fantasy player, I'd pick up Travis Henry as a sleeper back. Moulds and Bledsoe will both post career number as they win the division.

The Browns - Perhaps this pick isn't so sleeper. I had the opportunity to watch them a couple of times last year. Impressive D and coming together O. Couch is quite a talent and if the O-line is consistent they will win many games. I think they their number 2 WR suffered a pretty bad injury at the Vikings game last Saturday which I attended.

The Cowboys - Like it or not, Americas team will be back. Emmitt will post pretty good numbers splitting time with Hambrick who shows a lot of promise. An already above average D is made better with some off season acquistions. The X factor is the QB. I'd look for Dallas to win ten games though.

No one will prevent the Rams from going back to the Super Bowl. The Niners will fade this year in light of a tough schedule. From the AFC, I like Tennesee. I just want to see them get another shot at the Rams. Their first matchup four years ago was a great game.

Comments welcome, I fancy myself an NFL scholar for what it is worth. Uh nothing, except good banter mixed with alcohol.

Wuerffel had some pretty good numbers in his last game, didnt he? ESPN says that it could be his unitification with Spurrier. But I guess thats up in the air.

I knew I saw lots of potential the first time I saw Shockey play against FSU when he scored the winning touchdown in that game. I thought, if this guy stays healthy and keeps training, he can become big in the NFL.

I think Detroit is doing a good thing with McMahon. I liked his numbers in the Thanksgiving Day game last year. I thought Batch was good a couple years ago, I guess his small injury really did effect his career. Harrington, as you said, will either be a bust or a great player. I think to prevent him from being a bust, give him a years worth of backup playing to understand the tricks of the trade in the NFL.

EDIT-@Weasel Greetings again
@Ned Well those are good and courageous calls. As Ive said, Im not really going to say much before the season starts. Ill give you my picks a little later.
I agree with your sleepers, Ned. Browns, though. No. I think its going to be a bad season. I said somewhere that they were making steps forward, but only slowly, give them another year or so, get a bit more talent, and theyll be good.

You forgot one sleeper. Look out for Tennessee. They could be good this season. McNair, and George look like theyve healed and they should be able to re-capture their strength.
Buffalo and Dallas are good picks for sleepers, though I hate the Cowboys.

AND DOWN WITH THE JETS! :D

Oh yeah, I'm out for the night and probably til monday. Carry on without me BS and Tyb. Welcome Weasel, too bad I missed you.

Weasel, for a short time, you should change your avatar. I'd recommend a picture of the garden weasel if you can find one. Actually, I believe there is a gardenweasel.com. I just find the name and product hilarious. I first encountered the garden weasel as an infomerical several back late night on some chemically enhanced evening. To this day, I can still remember the commerical and start to giggle to myself. It was just the way the announcer said "Garden Weasel" but he pronounced it as "Gerdann Weezil".

I'm off to see if I can find some rockford files reruns.

Wuerffel will suck. So will the skins. Dan Snyder deserves it.

Start Harrington, don't be a fool. I think it is a cool with Mike McMahon that a Rutgers QB alum should get a chance in the NFL but please, get your best player, ahem harrington in there, and let him learn trial by fire. The Lions are going nowhere so what have they got to lose. Nada. Matt Millen deserves it.

OK. We have different views here. That could be fuel for conversations in the future. I look forward to it. I think the Lions will be junk again. I feel bad for Mortenwieg (Hes still coaching there, isnt he?)
Weurffel will probably suck. Youre right, there, Ned. I think.

BTW Look at my last post's edit. I have some more info there.

I too hate the cowboys tyb. I put tennesee in the super bowl. I don't consider them a sleeper pick at all. Even last year, i considered them one of the elite afc teams. they just underachieved. It looks like mcnair and george will be 100%, Eddie will be ferocious this year. With any luck, now that carter and kearse have had a year to meld, they'll be the tandem they are cracked up to be. Also helping kearse and carter will be a healthy secondary. Last year it was ravaged. Still, I think Fisher did an excellent job keeping that team together, focused, and prepared. They just missed the playoffs and were basically a second string squad all season.

The new divisional alignment is going to guarranttee at least one or 2 teams dominating and possibly getting home field advantageIMO. Pittsburg jumps to mind. and possibbly the Bucs. I think it is a matter of time till a team with a terriblt record in their division wins the division anyway, only having to play 6 in house games a year.

I ain't sold on Couch, and I am from kentucky. Maybe it's because he is local, and I live about 30 minutes from where he played high school ball, but I wasn't all that impressed with him at UK, and he needs to step up big time this year. Losing Jamir Miller is gonna hurt the Browns defnse too.

The Bills are interesting. Bledsoe has a big name, but his last couple years with the Pats were not all that great. It could have been talent surrounding him, or injuries, but I am not sold on the trade.

I do know that the Raiders picked TB's pocket for Gruden. The Bucs may profit short term, but the raiders, with an OLD roster, really did need those picks, and Gruden would have left after next year anyway.

I agree with Dallas, though it turns my stomach being a Skin's fan. Watch the redskins, their Defense should be outstanding, and I think whether Sprrier can post big numbers passing in the regular season or not, just throwing the ball deep will open things up for Davis.

Super Bowl, Probably Rams and Miami or Tenn.

Going from the last three SB's though, Bet on the Chargers or lions to win it all this year

@Ned, don't hate my Skin's cause their owner, look at me, I am a Tenn college football man, and hate Spurrier with a passion, but love my Skin's :D

Arrington will be Defensive MVP this year. Ray Lewis is gonna find out how it feels to have to shed blockers
