need help making a decision

Post by Le0 »

Hi, I kinda need some help deciding on what kind of enchantment to put on a Daedric Katana. I'm split between 75 points damage of frost or of fire. I'm about to spend all of my savings of 2 weeks that I've been playing this game, and I just want to know which is better in the long run? Also, if anyone would be kind enough to point me to some traders who have a lot of cash (preferably soul gem and weapon buyer), I would really appreciate it.

I would point you to an UserUnfriendly's posts on enchantments. Do a quick search on these posts and come away educated by the master.

IMHO soul trap and damage health are a great first enchantment combo. You don't need many points to do the trick though, and your weapon will stay charged longer if you don't max it out.

Spoiler:

Search around Sidrith Mara for soul gems, there is a trader who perpetually restocks. Also Balmora in crates, and various caves/tombs/etc.

Look for a scamp in Caldera. He's the friendly neighborhood fence.
Also do a search on this site for merchants with cash for more info.

Hope this helps ;)

Spoilers:
Soul Gems can be found in various bandit caves, all the Televanni towns, and there is one ship wreck with 20 grand soul gems. If you want a reusable soul gem that can hold any soul go to Azuras Shrine (the one pointed out on the map that comes with the game) do the quest. Creeper located in Ghorak manor in Caldera has 5000 gold. If you wonder how to sell him more expensive things just sell him a bunch of soul gems worth about 4000, and sell him the item and buy as many soul gem to the point where he is giving you within 5000 gold and a soul gems, rest for 24 hours and he will have 5000 gold again sell some soul gems, rinse and repeat.
He is back and in 3-d!

Guys, thanks a lot. Finally, I'll slowly start to get rid of my 500,000 worth of goods. Maybe I'll even get a chance to get a really wothy enchantement on my armor/weapons with this $$$.

Of the two, I'd go with fire myself.

75 is awful high, leading me to suspect you mean a range of x-75. In which case I would say don't do it - go with a (lower but) absolute amount. In other words, instead of, say, a 10-75 go with an absolute 35; if you really want a range, keep it narrow, say, 25-40. (These numbers are based on Ebony and Daedric shortswords which, IIRC, would hold 35 fire or frost, 28 spark or 24 poison.) While it's fun to think 'Hey, I can do 75 fire damage' you have to remember that 'Hey, you'll do a 10, 12, 40, 14, 10, 25, 12, 10, 60, 11, etc.'

That said, the most useful weapon enchantment IMO is Absorb Health.

heh, free_fall, actually, it was supposed to be 75-75 on my claymore, but today i finally decided to go with fire damage 60-80 with a 25ft range... too bad it only has 15 strikes in it, with 18/300 for each.

i agree that absorbing health is pretty good, but i've already gotten myself a constant effect 2-6 restore health ring ;)

New problem

I just want to consult with you, guys. Do you think it would be too lame of me to start enchanting my items with constant effect sanctuary? Hehe, I can get a total of 54 enchantement of sanctuary right now, and I have +50 sanctuary from my birthsign. Makes me pretty much invulnerable to any melee attacks. here's my character. I just need to know if it would still be anywhere near challenging to complete the game with all these crazy things?

On a separate note: I have a shortage of Greater Soul Gems, is there a trader that has infinite supply of them?

It would be pretty darn easy, except for spells but if you are quick at all they are easy to dodge.
