Stalker help

Post by Gorgan »

I just recently started a new game as a stalker. (inspired by Aragorn in LOTR) I first started dual wielding two long swords. But then i realized that early in the game there arent really any good swords, so i switched over to the Flails. Im dualing flail of the ages and wyverns tail +2. I havent gotten any good armor yet. Hes wearing studded leather right now. With all of his equipment he has a base AC of 0. His thaco is main:8 Off:10. Should i dual the two flails or is it not good in a roleplaying stance.

Is my guy good or no? any suggestions...

Dual Weilding

PErsonally i think dual wielding flails isn't that good. My first choice would be to put at least one proficiency slot under katana cos' Celestial Fury is probably one of the most awesome weapons in the game and can be used earlier on. Long sword proficiency slots are actually quite a good investment as you'll be able to get Daystar earlier on and will be able to use the Equalizer and Dragonslayer as well. Stalker is a good choice for your PC cos' you'll be able to do some humongous damage with backstab!

Since you did ask if a Ranger dualweilding flails was good for roleplaying I'd have to say no, and if you had to ask on that one I think you knew someone would answer no. Here's what I'd do for a Stalker. I'd dualweild Blade of Roses and Kundane, and swap Kundane for Cutthroat after Bodhi and Blade of Roses for Celestial Fury once you get it. A Katana/Longsword and a Shortsword seem pretty reasonable weapons for a Stalker if you're roleplaying. Actually roleplaying a character in regaurds to weapons and weapon styles actually makes it more challenging and fun.

Skuld- I kinda for some reason knew that someone was gonna say no, but i can see a fierce warrior dual-wielding two flails. It seemed like a pretty cool thought, but i have to admit that he kinda looked stupid with two flails. And for Obsidian- I know that aragorn only has one sword, I didnt like having one sword, to me my character looked kinda of naked withot something in the second hand.

Thanks for the input

I can see a fierce warrior dualweilding flails, but not a stalker. The damn things have chains on 'em, hows a guy making so much noise supposed to backstab? And how would one go about backstabing with a flail anyway?

I don't think that flails and maces suit a Stalker; Stalkers ought to wield swords (and backstab with them). But it's great for, say, a Cleric/Ranger to dual-wield the Flail of Ages and the Defender of Easthaven, or Crom Faeyr and the Improved Mace of Disruption, or any combination thereof. The Flail of Ages is great because it can Slow your opponents, and since it inflicts elemental damage, it can inflict one or two points of damage to a spellcaster who is protected from normal damage and disrupt his spellcasting. The Defender of Easthaven gives you an extra attack (like any secondary weapon) and reduces the damage you sustain from enemy hits. Crom Faeryr and the Improved Mace of Disruption are just plain awesome. Of course, a Cleric/Ranger can do a lot more than just hit opponents (and how), but the inability to wield a sword never struck me as a handicap in combat. In fact, I feel sorry for single-class Stalkers who wield swords. :)

UPDATE!!!!

My stalker is level 9- i wield a long sword +1 in main hand and Blade of Roses in off hand. My thaco for both hands are 6 and 6.
Im wearing aegis' armor and a couple other magical things. My ac is now -4. im doing really good, i think. So far its been my most productive games yet.

My usual strategy is to hide in shadows run up to the enemy and backstab. after the initial backstab i slice away at them until Anomen and Keldorn arrive. I cant wait till i get more cool stuff, Ill keep an update. (by the way this will be my first complete go through of the game). When i get enough money i am going to get that girdle of strength that give 19. Then ill probably go get edwin afterwards.

-Gorgan- I was wondering what gorgan means. If anyone knows plese respond. Thanks
