Neverwinter nights expansion??

Post by diablo1221 »

Firstly is neverwinter nights going to have an Expansion or has bioware moved onto new projects? If they make and expansion what new things do you think they should add to the game....or do you think they should just add more of the same?? I think some new feats would be good and the lvl cap moved up 20 or so lvls. Do you think it should be like BG 1 and BG 1:TOSC (based in the same place) or like BG2 and TOB based in different locations?? your thoughts plz

I'd say just add more in the same place since nwn allready covers a lot of places but also add things like familair npc's or books about bdg and such since it's the familair story and the codependance of all the games that makes it such fun. And ehrm they can also add the mute hencmen option and the henchmen can walk better option.

I wish I could access henchmen inventory. Lots of cool stuff around you can't use!

I totally agree with a "mute henchman" option. Tomi could be less pain in the butt. Besides that, he always has trouble in getting close enough to a chest. I had to move my guy around (and it is frustrating) to let Tomi handle the chest. I should be fixed.

Often you want your henchmen use a ranged weapon. They should automatically choose a farther distance instead of firing arrows just in front of a huge ogre. Remember DII? It seems that an advance command to keep short-long distance doesn't help much ( and you can't move your henchmen in real-time combat).

A minor thing: the prices in stores are ridiculous! When you sell your loot, a simple copper ring cost 35GP and a copper amulet 65GP while a battleaxe or some armor cost almost nothing. They had the same system in BG as well.

I would also like Bioware to make available more commands to henchmen, like "attack this target" command for example, "retreat" would also help though that is not really big since your henchmen are simply telleported back to temple of Tyr, it's just annoying to keep having to go back there to pick up the bard chick who seems to always pick on someone she can't handle.

I am just happy Tomi is small and knows how to dodge still he allways manages to pull a crowd and never near me grin. Also the fact he likes to run trough an entire level without me when he spots an enemy annoys me.

The henchmens could use some tweaking indeed but if you give them less AI hence control him yourself the idea would be lost instead increase and perfect te ai somewhat.

As for the game itself it would be nice to c a familair face now and then, more items more quests more big monsters and baddies to attack etc. I would also enjoy seeing more environment since sometimes it rains for 5 seconds and then it stops while it would be nice if it took up an hour or so. Caves and the like I allways loved the a3d, eax dripping and echoes in a cave that are allmost non excistend. Snow would also be really cool and maybe a lightning storm or 2.

The familiars can also use some tweaking......the noise the fairy makes drives me CRAZY. and the AI of the familiars is nearly as bad as Sharwyns (bard merc). When i had a fairy familiar in act 3 she flew straight into a bunch of ancient guys died in 3 seconds and i was left rougeless for the next 5 min.

True fairy bad

looks like bioware spent more time on creating sounds for the npc's and creatures then the simple eax features their 3d world should have because to be honest I got a dolby digital 5.1 set here and I really dun like the sound comming from the game they could have done way better when it comes to the environmental audio xurround

Hence why I would like the rain and weather conditions wouldn't take a genious to implement but it would increase the beauty with a few notches.

Also what I forgot to mention is I'd like experience for QUESTS and LEARNING not just "ME SMASH" you literally have to kill every creature in the game to get decent experience and to be honest that's boring I know I can kill that prisoner but because of the experience I need to kill every single one of them god forbid if I miss one !

But then again if they put xp on quests and learning things then we wouldn't have to kill all the beasties and then you can finish the game in ehrm 4 hours ?

hence expansion more quests and different experience

Talking about sounds: when you hear "don't leave me, please don't leave me, I wanna go home, everybody is dead..." like 10 times per minute, don't you just crave to put this invisible female out of her misery once and for all? And when you sell your loot to Ashelor and he keeps cheering up Ander (or whoever) like "Don't worry blah-blah-blah..." don't you feel miserable yourself? I mean enough is enough.

it's a bit like diablo 2 they ran out of time and needed to get the game out on the market if they took only 3 months extra then the expansion wouldn't be needed since the expansion just made diablo 2 what it was supposed to be from the start. Same with nwn if they just put more work in it they could have made such a beauty of a game......

Well, it looks like running out of time became a VERY COMMON excuse for many game makers. Maybe there is something else? Incompetence, for example. Or bad taste. Or bad management. Or whatever. :p

With all software programming there are such things as a deadline and it allways runs l8 normally it can be fixed with patches but with games like this they made so much propoganda and in order to compete with dungeon siege and morrowing they HAD to bring out the game. It's all about money cause if they waited a month or two more then people would all have gotten morrowind and dungeon siege and probably not nwn hence just bring it out completed, perfected or not right ?

Hence what these days expansions are for trust me when I say the expansion for nwn is allready there it's just being bugchecked and guess who's doing the checking, RIGHT us. But then again maybe the expansion will be all that what we wanted.

Do you mean that the expansion is being beta tested right now? About deadlines: there are deadlines not only in game industry. My understanding is that the deadline basically means that somebody estimates reasonable time for the product to be market-ready. If they don't meet this deadline, then either the estimation was poor or the workers failed. How much did you pay for this game? I paid about $60. Now I am supposed to pay another $$ for the expansion just to "make things right" and get the game as it should have been originally. Expansions are darn expensive. IWD HoW cost $30 and was just pathetic. I think, expansions are planned in advance. I personally don't have problem with it as far as the original game is satisfactory. And I own Morrowind and Dungeon Siege, and I bought NWN after I bought those games. All hard core gamers did, I believe. But perhaps you are right about the majority of people.

nwn the current game is the beta itself trust me a few more quests and a few more characters isn't so tough they just need time to fix their mess hence they love us finding all their bugs so they can fix them for the expansion.
