Quite Simply, He is The Perfect Tank(tm)

Post by ThePerfectTank »

I have cultivated what I believe is..
The Perfect Tank(tm).

First, I set the ability scores that were easily increased by magic items to the required minimum. ( Dexterity and Strength ) and maxed out the Const, Int and Wisdom. ( 18/18/18 )

Paladin ( Undead Hunter Hit )
** Immune to Hold and Energy Drain

Carsomyr +5
This goes without saying.. 50% Resistance to magic!

Red Dragon Scale
One of the best "non magic" armour, good fire/acid/etc protection.

Vahailar's Helm
Free Simulacrum for your tank? Priceless.

Cloak of Mirroring
Any niave Mage throwing damage spells will be rudely awaken... Come on baby, cast Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting on me!

Gauntlet's of Dexterity
Dex of 18.. 'nuff said

Girdle of Frost Giant Strength
And you wonder why I didn't worry about
the natural Strength score?

Boost of Haste
Get in quick, decimate the opponent

TWO, count em, TWO Rings of Gaxx.
Okay, so I had to hire a theif...

These are two magic-protection+2 rings that allow you to wear both.. with doublelapping Magic resistance, fire, acid etc.

Amulet of Spell Warding
+2 vs spells.

The result?

The Perfect Tank(tm) is virtually immune to any magic. Also, an offensive damage spells cast against them are reflected back to the caster. When the The Perfect Tank(tm)walks into a Den of Stinking Evil Beholders.. they fall over themselves trying to kill themselves!

The Perfect Tank(tm) is an awesome melee combatant.. Very high hitpoints.. awesome THACO.. awesome damage to per hit.. and +10 AC.

The only down side is a lack of missile weapons.. but who cares baby? That's what the Boots of Haste is for!

About the only thing I can think of improving is if Carsomyr was a Bastard sword, so you could double-weild Crom Faeyr!

Using a theif to steal is "cheating"?

Hardly.. that is what theives *DO*.. they steal. They pickpocket, pick locks, disarm/set traps etc.

Cheating would be to use a console summon command.. or using a patch/hack.. or editing your desc..

But using a theif to steal is never "cheating". That's his job.. and that is fully allowable within the rules of BG2!

Haha! After fighting my way through the Asylum, I'll kill those 5 Demon Knights with my 9 STR, on my own.

Oh, or I'll do the quest of the Unseeing Eye with 3 DEX. What kind of AC would that be?

MOOHAHAHA!!

Hey, hey, check out my fighter/mage/thief/cleric with 18 STR/DEX/CON/INT/WIS/CHA, it's the perfect tank/spellcaster/rogue/healer!

You don't get it. This tactic (pickpocketing Kangaxx before he dies) is considered cheese: taking abuse of bugs. Cheese is considered cheating.

Does anyone else smell cheddar in here?

I didn't claim to have gone solo thru the whole thing, eh?

Sure, your character is weaker at the beginning.. but by shifting them to ones you can't improve easily.. you get a much higher, overall level at the end. You sacrifice short term for the long term. And for his sacrifice.. his God rewards him with the gifts that offset his weakness.

Oh sure.. if that gives you a problem, you could sit there rerolling for a few hours till you get the perfect 18's..

With respect, why should we care that you created a powerful character in a game?

I mean, what did it require? At best, tenacity in rerolling, and gathering the items needed over a period of days--or in your case, the lesser road of getting all the hints others have posted, then cheesing your way into good stats and items.

So what? I mean, a few hours effort, if that, nearly all of it based on the work of others, in any case. If we were really looking to compare achievements, I suppose we'd all see who could learn a new language quickest, or write a novel--well, something that to boast about. Anybody who plays BG2 for a while will have a powerful character.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Besides, with all the spells they have, i believe that Berzerker/cleric is the best tank. Ok, spellcasting takes time and all that, but with draw upon holy might(the best level 2 spell, you can have plenty) and enrage you have 25 dex, you get bonus from enrage, and this class can wear the mighty amulet of power

what is a tank for you?(i dont understand english very well cause its not the language we speak here)i think it is a character very strong, so the best tank i ever played is a kensai/mage and monk, i just cannot be killed with these two characters
i think stalker/clerig would be a good choice

A tank is a person who can stand in the frontline, taking damage, not necesarily giving damage

I have to agree with ThePerfectTank that pickpocketing is not cheating. It is just crapy AI. And by the way, does Kevin Dorner have a patch for that?

You know what is "cheesy cheating"? Playing a ROLE playing game with a theif and NOT theiving? That's not playing "In the spirit" of the rules and the game!

If you feel immoral about stealing with a computer character.. then why have a theif in your party?

And why is it a bug that you can pick pocket someone before you talk to them? I always try to pick pocket someone before I talk to them! It actually makes sense that a theif would pickpocket someone before talking to them..

Because Kangaxx isn't supposed to have 2 Rings of Gaxx. If you check the Infinity Explorer, you'll see this.
I'll explain you what happens in the fight:

Kangaxx the Lich appears. He has 1 Ring of Gaxx. You pickpocket it from him. He loses the ring.
When he dies, the game generates another creature, Kangaxx the Demi-Lich. In the story, this is supposed to be the same character, but that's hard/impossible to program.
Because the game doesn't know you pickpocketed the Lich-form, and because the Demi-Lich-form is supposed to be the same character, it also carries the Ring of Gaxx.
If you now kill Kangaxx the Demi-Lich, he'll drop that ring.

I don't mind you pickpocketing Kangaxx - that's perfectly legal - I mind you picking up that ring the Demi-Lich drops. That's abusing a bug the designers have missed.

LMAO...the next time I play thru BG2 I will be sure to give you a call so you can come over and monitor my game. This way you will not mind how I play MY GAME. I'm sorry I don't follow YOUR rules.

Now lets put this in a different form...
EDITED BY WEASEL......... by The_Pope...I don't mind you pickpocketing Kangaxx - that's perfectly legal - IMHO picking up that ring the Demi-Lich drops is abusing a bug the designers have missed.
Now I believe this is stated better.
