. . . and now for something completely different

Post by Piqsid »

I think this board needs a change of pace from everyone bragging about their characters, me included, so how about this.

I've been reading all the info on Throne of Bhaal, and I am sad that it will be the final game in the series. So I got to thinking on how they could improve the game for us, post production. What if they came out with a patch that would link all four games together. I actually never bought Tales of the Sword Coast, and I don't think I will, so maybe they could make a patch that will link any or all of the games together. What I mean by that is you could start BG and have access to any one of the kits available in BGII. You could play through the whole game, and instead of it being completed, it would then jump right to TotSC, or BGII, which ever one you have. If you had any NPC's with you, they would become inprisoned too (I guess if Minsc and Jaheria aren't in your group at the end of BG they'd have to think of something). Then when you got out of Irenicus's prison, you would still have the BG map open to you. This might involve switching between a bunch of CD's, but it would give you the opportunity in BG to pass over something that is too dificult, knowing you can visit it much later on in the game. This way you could create a 1000 hour game that would be just huge. I only played through BG once, and now there seems to be a scratch on one of my CDs, so I haven't revisited the game, so I don't remember everything about it, but I know there were a lot of NPC's that I left behind and a few quests I didn't complete, and it might be fun to have access to them again. What do you guys think?

The games aren't consecutive, or linkable. There are too many differences between them, and although they are supposedly set in the same place with a similar cast of characters, most of the characters, and a good portion of gameplay and balance, are different.

Besides, we don't know that the series as such is over.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

that sounds like the most intelligent thing i've heard all day, and the npcs that have little references ( you know xan being killed) they would leave the party at the end of tales of the sword coast. Think of all the dialouge that could be added. Plus some new weapons wouldnt hurt . A idea i had for throne of Bhall was that if you were a elven fighter or barbarian( kensai would be best) Elisseme would give you the moon blade think of the power. I could go on and on.....

I understand that there are a lot of differences between the two games, weapon proficiencies for starters, but I don't think it would be impossible, just very difficult. I also understand that the end of the BG series and the begining of th BGII series is very non-consecutive. That could be part of the patch. They might create an extra movie, or maybe 100% scripted play, or even a few scenes of actual play, though the outcome (the PC's capture) would have to be certain. Another idea is to have the NPC's get captured and they include a few hours of game play in which you have to travel to Athkatla to free them. There are lots of possibilities, and it's always fun to dream even if it's never going to happen.

Just a note by a Forgotten Realms freak Image
You can't get a moonblade because

1. To have a moonblade you must be a moon elf of pure blood (to the other FR freaks, Arilyn Moonblade was an exception!)

2. Moonblades are uniquely hereditary. It is passed on from generation to generation to truly worthy heirs. If they're not cool enuff, the lil elf lads get burnt to crisp! This way only the good nice elves of that noble house can use its hereditary powers. If the last elf of that blood dies unworthy, then the moonblade's powers go dormant..

I suppose you could get a dormant moonblade if that's what you mean, but who wants a moonblade without its powers?
**cough cough** I doubt that Bhaal would have a moonblade to pass on Image

BTW, does anyone know about the REALLY good cursed moonblade that gives huge stat bonuses and penalties and does bad stuff to ppl if it doesn't like them. I think it's a talking sword w smthng like INT 25, EGO 30, summons an elf(?) fighter who casts wail of the Banshee as an ability. BTW, this is an AD&D weapon, so I hope I haven't given any BG@ players false hopes.

Who knows( probably 5 out of every 10 submarines with screen doors).
