1st-person funky in MW?

Post by free_fall »

Having arrived at RPGs via slide-show adventures and FPS, I enjoy, and am comrfortable with, 1st-person view. (I've played plenty of 3rd-person action titles, too.)

However, I find the 1st-person view in MW to be somewhat disconcerting.

It's hard to describe but it's almost as if you're *too* close, like the camera is about a foot forward of where it should be.

I felt much more comfortable playing the game in 3rd-person

Is it just me or has anyone else experienced this?

I'm slightly beyond being 1/2 done with the main quest, but of the 3 weeks I've been playing Morrowind, I have, probalby, only spent about 20 minutes playing the game in 3rd person perspective. The only reason I used it anyway is to check out how my character looks with his armor (and it was good 'till I got some robe that has 50 feather constant effect, so now, I can't see my beautyful armor ). I guess they fixed 1st perspective for the Xbox version, because everything seems very natural to me (pretty much a lot like Halo).

I think the 1st person view is the same in X-box as it is in the PC. I play the PC game and everything looks fine in 1st person, but everyone has different feels for each view, so thats probably why free_fall finds 1st person as strange.
“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

I play almost exclusively in 1st person and love it. I can't fight worth a flip in 3rd person. However, I do go into vanity mode when I get a new toy... :D

I'm pretty new to PC gaming and MW was my first game to really play, so that may have something to do with it. Maybe it is harder for people with a lot of game time behind them from before MW came out. I guess it is like having to relearn what has become instinctual.

It's great that this game is versitile enough to be played either way.

I guess it's just me, then.

Since I was shunted to the backpath the 1st time around, I've started a new game. Pretty much the same character with just a few little changes in starting skills.

After ending up with 100 str/end/speed, it's a real shock to be so slow and weak again but it makes me feel good that I accomplished a lot the first time to get to where I was.

Oh! If only I hadn't killed that guy! I understand the latest patch adds a quest-breaking warning to the person in question. Great! Thanks, guys.

This time, I'll take a more relaxed approach, an hour or two here and there, no relentless daily marathons like before. Oh, and I'll use 1st-person more.

yes, it says you broke a quest...it even did when I got killed once, something about with the main char dead you have to load a save game or continue in the doomed world you created...

The person I killed had no warning attached. The readme on the latest patch says that this person will now carry a warning.

The distinction here is that killing this character didn't "doom" me -i.e. make me unable to complete the main quest - it just shunted me onto the backpath to complete the main quest.

I love the 1-st person view but, hate the 3-rd person view.
