Most useless powerful spells
Which 8th and 9th spell is the most useles
8th: Symbol of Death. Most creatures have over 60 hitpoints, and most make their saving throws. It can kill weaker creatures, but then there is death spell.
9th: Absolute Immunity. No weapon under +5 can hit you when its up, but there isn't any enemy wielding a +5 weapon, except the mage in the Twisted Rune, but she cant even hit you with the staff anyway. Improved Mantle does the same job.

I agree with Pope: disintegrate is powerful, but useless in the game. There's no fun in not taking an enemy equipment....

But a higher level mage wouldn't be wasting anything, since they'd know the spell by heart. And so will you, once the ToB comes out. Then it could prove very useful, since it allows you to pursue a policy of "divide and conquer" among your enemies. At the moment, of course, it's a more use to your enemies, who have those levels.yeah, freedom is a 9th level spell, so you have to waist a whole scroll on one pathetic enemy.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Nah, I'm positive you get xp from Imprisonment; it worked on the silver dragon and all of Trademeet, after all. .Originally posted by Nick_Dude:
Imprisonment. First of all you cannot cast it in the game, and why wuld you? You don't get the experience(I think) and you don't get the items.

On the topic of instant death spells such as Disintigrate, Finger of Death, etc, my lawful evil mage finds them quite handy. With the Robe of Vecna, Staff of the Magi, and rings of Wizardry and Acuity, he does not feel the need to loot every corpse at his feet. Since I've played the game many times before, I know which emenies have worthwhile stuff, so I try not to kill them instantly, but in my new game I'm trying to roleplay my mage, therefore these spells are the mainstay of his spellbook and give him his sinister demeanor.

Yeah, it is worth distintegrating Torgal and other such monsters that carry little or nohting of value. Beholders are worth distintegrating so are demons that don't have alot of magic resistance!

i disagree about absolute immunity...monsters hands, claws are still considered weapons..so if your immune to anything under +5 i don't think even adamantite (sp?) golems can hit you....IMo the two most useless spells are:
8th: Symbol Death...altho may be useful in ToB to clear out low lvl monster areas quickly.
9th: Power Word Kill...still doesn't effect enemies with more then 60 hps
My favourite lvl 9 spell is ShapeChange, gotta love Greater Wolfweres and Iron Golems

The first thesis goes astray. You do can - by a scroll, and there is more than one in the game.Originally posted by Nick_Dude:

As for use - you might buy time and then use freedom in the same way where you're ready.
(It's not my idea, it was in the thread somewhere below)
