Any WinXP users?

Post by Virgil57 »

I am getting a new computer and it is going to run WinXP. I was just wondering if anyone has been able to run BG under WinXP.

I have Windows XP too, and no problems running BG itself. I do have some trouble installing Tales of the Sword Coast as well (no trouble whatsoever with BGII SoA or ToB anymore). EDIT - do try to install all the official patches (there was a known issue with "X appears to be busy" in BG II when running it on XP)

I have Windows XP Professional on my machine, and all the Infinity Engine games run just fine. The stability of XP is wonderful!

Install the BG patch (the one that says you can't use if ToSC is already installed) then install ToSC.

I had the same error message as you and this fixed!

Ok i downloaded the patch and then tried to install TOSC. Baldur.exe works fine now and it installed, but, further a long in the instalation it said something like data error -117 and something about durlags tower. It then finished installing but when i tried to play it it only gives me the install option. I really need help here, i miss playing TOSC!

Now add the patch for ToSC. This should take care of it.

If not, I say you should start over with BG 1, the patch(the one you can't use if ToSC is already installed), then ToSC, and the ToSC patch.

This is how I did it and I've had no problems.

I don't know if this is the case, but make sure you use the correct patch. Some are for different versoins of the game, such as USA, Euro, English, French, German, etc... Like I said, I don't know if the BG games work like this, but most seem to.

physco monkey -

Make sure your CD is clean and undamaged. I've seen cases over in the Black Isle forum where error 106 was generated by a damaged/smudged CD. Also, you might want to try some of the trouble-shooting ideas on installation posted here.

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.
