Rolgan's Trial (Spoiler request)
Rolgan's Trial (Spoiler request)
Is it actually possible to win the trial without bribing someone in the jury? I must have done the trial 20 times now and the best I can get is 2 lit torches. Do you know which dialogue options I should choose?
the best i've done is 4 out of 5 (is 5-5 possible???)
what worked for me was to load on the charisma (potions, cloaks, rings, anything that increases charisma) then talk to everyone well before the trial, and try to gauge what their issues are, find out how the "victim" acted in the past. also find out what hot button issues eact jury member is swayed by.
then when you get to trial, go for those hot button issues.
in addition try and raise as much doubt as possible - how may saw the fight break out? ect ect
i don't recall if i got persuade options when i was doing the interviews, so i'm not sure it matters. (but when my char is in town, i always cha loaded since a lot of persuade oppertunities pop up.)

Buy drinks to witness in bar, and listen him to tell how Griff spiked the drinks and hated Uthgards. Don´t pull the racism card in trial unless you really bungle it. Ask from witnessing soldiers that did they see who started the fight, did Griff spike drinks and how he feeled about Uthgards. From Rolgans wife, ask just the first question, if I remember right, did she send Rolgan back or something. Don´t ask about the value of lost artifacts. Rest should go by your own instincts.

Spoilers...
I'm going off distant memory here, but there's a guy in the tavern that you can offer to buy drinks for. Get him talking and he'll mention that the deceased slipped drugs into the defendant's drink before they played. Talk to everybody and get their stories.
At the trial, do NOT bring up the question of whether the defendant is on trial merely because he is an Uthgart. Focus on the deceased's known hatred for the barbarians, the fact that he drugged the defendant, and the fact that the defendant merely wanted to talk to the deceased to get his sacred items back.
You should easily get five torches lit.
Edit: Aaagh, too late....

Unanimous is definitely possible. SPOILERS-A-PLENTI
There are four witnesses total. Two third-party witnesses, the wife, and Rolgan himself. I don't know if charisma actually helps, but I can't imagine how it can hurt.
You do not need to bribe any of the jurors. Just talk to all of them and make sure you buy the drunkard at the tavern some extra drinks (to get more info on the events, not to bribe).
First witness:
After the prosecutor questions the first witness, the juror status will be 0-2-3, which means 0 for innocent, 2 for guilty, and 3 for undecided. When it's your turn to cross examine him, first ask him about whether or not he saw who started the fight. Then ask him about the fact that Griff spiked Rolgan's drink. Then ask him what Griff thought about Uthgardts to play the race card. Make it sound like Griff was the one that started the fight. Do NOT make the fact that Rolgan was drunk an excuse. One of the jurors is a against drinking of all sorts.
Second witness:
Ask him the same thing as you did the first, and again, stay away from the he-was-drunk-so-it-was-okay defense. Use the spiked drink, it's more effective. If you do this right, at the end of questioning this witness all 5 jurors should be holding the torch, but wait, the trial isn't over yet.
Third witness:
Next up is Vanda, the wife of the accused. During the prosecutor's questioning of her, one of the jurors will put away his torch sending you back to 4-0-1. Ask her the first question, something about why she sent Rolgan back to talk to Griff. DON'T ASK HER ANYTHING ELSE! Dismiss her. This will bring you back to 5-0-0.
Fourth witness:
Now you have a chance to call Rolgan himself. DO NOT PUT HIM ON THE STAND. He's got sort of a big mouth which will screw up your attempt at a unanimous decision. When you don't call him however, one of the jurors will again put down his torch, but it's okay.
Closing arguements:
If you did it right, nothing will change during the prosecutor's closing arguements, you should still be at 4-0-1 when it's your turn to speak. When you're up, choose the first point. I forget what it was exactly (I'm pretty sure it's about the fact that the drink was spiked), but just remember to stay away from the drinking as a defense and don't play the race card this time. That should be all you need to get all 5 jurors to acquit. There's more you can say, but quit while you're ahead. End your closing arguement and you'll get a nice fat 1562 exp reward for his unanimous acquital. Good luck.

Charisma...maybe.
Come to think of it, I believe charisma does indeed help. My first time through the trial was with a paladin and I didn't remember a thing about the details of the trial except for the fact that I got a unanimous decision to acquit very easily. But I went through it again with a less schmoozy fighter and I had a hard time and ended up having to go through the trial several times before I worked it out. So strap on the Nymph Cloaks, Lantanese Ring, and the Belt of Performance.

Re: Charisma...maybe.
Just bought the guy at the bar drinks untill he spilled his guts and healed the guy at the baraks, then he was more then willing to talk
Guess the dead guy wasn't popular
First time I did it - I got a verdict of 0 to 5 - second time I did it I got a 5 to 0.
People don't like that racial card being played
Don't know - my fighter/rogue had 10 or 12 with some persuade.Originally posted by Yuusuke

Insert signature here.
Another thing I just remembered: with my paladin, I was able to persuade the racist juror at the bar to vote fair without having to use money, I had an extra dialogue choice. Dunno if it was the higher WIS that my paladin had or because of the higher persuade/CHA.

Other things before trial
Just a few more things to know to help before the trial.
You don't need to bribe anyone to get a unanimous verdict but you do have to do have to do a couple things.
BEFORE you begin talking to the witness in the barracks, make sure you heal him (with a healer's kit). Otherwise you won't be able to get him to tell everything that he knows, even if you heal him after you first talk to him. You'll get the same story from Londar in the tavern when he's sufficiently drunk, but it helps if you can bring up the same points for both during questioning.
Also bring up the question about why Rolgan lost so much money (to prove that Griff was cheating at cards which you learned from the witnesses beforehand) and that was why Griff would have attacked Rolgan first. Aside from the fact that Griff hates Uthgardts (brought up with first witness), mentioning any other racism will hurt your testimony with the juror from the barracks, but he can still be brought over to give an innocent verdict if you only mention it once near the beginning or middle of the trial. However, it is difficult if not impossible for you to get a unanimous verdict if you do this.
I was a ranger/rogue, but all I had on was a Nymph Cloak+2 during the trial and that was enough CHA for me to have all five torches before closing arguments, so I doubt CHA plays too big of a role. The Tyrran acolyte Edegar is the hardest to convince, but to win avoid mentioning anything about the religious aspects of the heirlooms (he dislikes the Uthgardt's religion) as well as drinking like Yuusuke said.

Just do as described above and even the toughest member of the jury, that imbecilic ziloth will raise the torch.... 5/5. no need for bribing anyone.Lasenna Arynden wrote:Just a few more things to know to help before the trial.
