Can any of you lovely people answer a couple of questions for me, please?
Firstly, I'm playing BGII through a second time and am playing a male character to see what the romances are like. I have Jaheira, Viconia and Aerie in my party so there's lots of conversation going on. My character is a half-elf.
My question is which lady offers the best romance with regards to making the story of the game most interesting and different to how it was when I was playing a female character?
Also, how do I know when I've made my choice?! I'm being nice in my replies to all of them. Will they suggest "getting physical" and my character either accepts or declines according to his choice?!
Another question: Haer Dalis is a tiefling, right. What's a tiefling?
Romantic questions (possibly spoilers)

you can only have ONE romance at a time, if there are 2 then the last one that you were having gets frozen, I noticed that my other party members never spoke during a romance unless it was about a quest.
I only played as Viconia and the guild book I bought says that she is the most fun to have a romance with.
also about Haer Dalis' being a tiefling a tiefling seems to be an alien (sort of).

if you have a romance with Aerie and Haer Dalis' is in your group then Haer Dalis will challenge you to a duel later for Aerie.
in TOB there are Tieflings in the Watcher's keep. I have no idea how they react to Haer Dalis' since I never used him.

Remember, being Evil in Baldur's Gate 2 is VERY fun...
I don't think I could tell you which romance you would find the most "interesting". All of the romances are similar in one respect: if you want to form a romantic bond, you have to give your partner lots of emotional support. Is that fun? Is that interesting? You'll have to decide for yourself. If you want their love, giving them emotional support is the price you have to pay.
Jaheira is afraid of commitment, and she comes into conflict with the Harpers, who are supposed to be her friends, so most of her romance consists of helping her through that and putting up with her desire to be left alone. Viconia has never been able to talk about her past experiences with anyone before, so she'll lean on your character for support and tell you her life story. But at the same time, she is very frightened by her dependence on you, so she'll try to push you away. Aerie supposedly whines the most (I don't believe it); she needs help dealing with the traumatic experiences of her past. Each of them wants to make sure your character loves her before she'll make a real commitment. It requires patience on your part.
At some point, you will have to choose between them. When you make your choice, it will be quite clear, and the other two will back off. Aerie actually has another suitor, so that could make things interesting.
The NPCs are the ones who initiate intimacy; your character can choose to follow along if he wishes. I never thought that any of the relationships with the women was all that romantic in Shadows of Amn, but I think the romance with Aerie turns out to be very romantic in Throne of Bhaal and more fun than the other romances. It might appear that she has ended the romance in Shadows of Amn (it always reaches that point eventually), but she hasn't really stopped loving your character; she just "needs more time".
Tieflings are a humanoid species who inhabit the "Planes" (as opposed to the Prime Material Plane). Individual tieflings have a wide variety of physical characteristics, but the one thing they all have in common is that there is demonic blood in their ancestry. Some have horns, some have tails, some have strange skin color, some have strange body odor, some have special resistances (to things like fire, cold, etc), some have special abilities, etc. A little girl in the Bridge District actually asks Haer'Dalis why he smells funny, so that must be one of the traits he inherited from his demonic ancestors. But there are certainly no demonic tendencies in his personality. Tieflings are just another race of people.

As always, there are SPOILERS!
Jaheira offers the longest and most-complicated romance. It's tricky to get around, but she's probably the most story-line contributal charactor.
Viconia is probably second best if it comes to long romances. Just remember that your charactor can not be full Elf.
Then... There's Aerie....
Haer'Dalis is a Tiefling, yes. A Teifling is a sub-class of Elf, similar to the Drow.

I just found the romances annoying since your other party members don't speak during them unless it's about a quest so you miss out on funny stuff that happen between them.
Edit: there something that's kind of like a cheat code to speed up romances and see the whole thing. I'm not sure what you need to type into the Clua thing that you can type in other cheats like money.

Tieflings are actually NOT a sub-class of elf. Whoever it was that said the thing about them being partly demonic was correct. Tieflings (and Aasimars) are "Planetouched". The actual D&D descriptions is as follows:
"Planetouched" is a general word used to describe those who can trace their bloodline back to an outsider, usually a fiend or celestial.
The effects of having a supernatural being in one's heritage last many generations. Although not as dramatically altered as a half-celestial or half-fiend, the planetouched still retain some of their special qualities.
The planetouched discussed here are the most common. Aasimars are humans with some trace celestial blood in their veins, and tieflings have some fiendishness in their family tree.
There is no "typical" assimar or tiefling. They do not have their own societies or cultures, instead blending into existing ones.
(Aasimar entry omitted)
Tiefling:
Twisted, devious, and untrustworthy, tieflings more often than not follow their inherent traits and heed the call to evil. A few defy their nature, but still must fight against popular opinion (if their nature is known) or the feeling of otherworldly "wrongness" that seems to follow them wherever they go.
Beyond this aura that many find disturbing, many tieflings are indistinguishable from humans. Others have small horns, pointed teeth, red eyes, a whiff of brimstone about them, or even cloven feet. No two tieflings are the same.
In most human societies, tieflings maintain a low profile, operating as thieves, assassins, or spies. Occasionally they rise to a position of power, but when their true nature is revealed they quickly become outcasts.

Yep, but Jaheira's romance is also very buggy. I expect you back here in a few days with a new thread called "Need help with my Jaheira romance."Originally posted by Fairmaiden
Thanks everyone for the info. I'll probably go with Jaheira if she contributes most to the story line - that's what I was looking for, but the other two obviously add interest to the game too.

Yes, Jaihera romance is very buggy.. And there are a few side quests / bits and bobs you *MUST* complete in order for it to work..
You may want to do a quick Forum search, to find out the exact CLUA code for romance checks, the one that prompts dialogue is
CLUAConsol:SetGlobal("Charname","GLOBAL,1")
I may be wrong however, so best to get a second opinion.
I can just say, without spoiling anything.. You will have to spend some time / talk to some people / do some quests in the docks district, I wont say who they are unless you ask for some specific spoilers.
The only Advice I can give you is this.. Dont hurry the game, resting aside, play slowly in *Real time* you may want to put the dificulty lvl up or play with a weak party to slow your progress as the romance Dialogues are spawned by the amount of real time that passes, not game time and Jaihera Romance is very, very long.. You may not be able to complete unless you play through wk and almost every quest, slowly.
