Zaknefein

Post by Everclearules20 »

Hi, I just started reading the forgotten realms books, and i have read a couple books with Drizzt in them. I've heard Zaknefein say Drizzt would be atleast his equal or even better fighter than he is. But i've also heard Drizzt talking so highly of Zaknafein's skills, and I was wondering if they were equals or if Zaknefein was better...?

AFAIK, Drizzt is bellow zaknalfein, as he is a level 24(OTA) fighter...Drizzt is meant to be a 10/5/1 fighter/ranger/barbarian

Rules that i've seen place Drizzt as a pure ranger by 3ed rules. I don't know Zaknefien's (bad spelling) class though (probably just fighter with dual-wielding feats). I've also read the Dark Elf Trilogy and at the end of that Zak was only barily better then Drizzt. He still has the Icewind Dale Trilogy and about 6 other books about him to read. :)

When do rangers train INDOORS, with no one to teach them? He was trained as a fighter untill he left, he got 1 ranger level for being out doors, he trained himself, then he went mad and got a barbarian level. He later trained with Mooshie as ranger.

Drizzt's stats are in the Forgotten Realms Handbook. He has a CR of 18, so any legimate charcters will still need to be high lvl to defeat him and Guehnvar.(Yah i know i spelled it wrong) And you still have to take into account his friends stats.(none are in any book that i know off)

That`s only because Salvatore has the tendency to have his favorite little elf kill 3 dragons per strike and such, regardless of unwanted concepts like common sense.

I looked him up just to prove my point and he is a level 16 ranger. Not all rangers trained for forest despite what the players guide states. Dwarven Rangers dwell in caves usually for example. From the begining Drizzt trained as a steathly, dual-wielder that is intimetly familiar with his environmet (wilderness lore). That sound ranger-ish to me. He also got basic magic training in his home city. Also by the end of his adventuring carrer (whenever that will be) he is better the Zaknefein.

Acutually there are 2 versions of his stats. 1 is a lvl 16 ranger. The other(which i go by) is in the 3e Forgotten Realms Handbook, states he is 10th lvl fighter, 5th lvl ranger, 1st lvl barbarian. Both are legimate, its just which one you want to go by.

Oh well, thought he was a lvl. 17 ranger, as stated in BG: Dark Alliance, though that, of course (being a PS game) might not be reliable.

In 2nd edition wasn't Drizzt something like lv. 18 fighter dualed to lv. 16 ranger? Zak is lv.24 and Jaraxle is lv.21 IIRC.

Yes, Barbarians can equip metal armor, though only up to Medium category (such as chainmail or scale mail). However, Drizzt's chainmail is made of mithral, which reduces the chainmail's weight category by one incriment. Heavy armor (like Bruenor's field plate) is considered medium, an Medium armor (such as chainmail) or Light categories of armor are considered Light. Also, Armor Check Penalties are reduced, which would reduce the detriment that normal chainmail would do to the stealthiness that his levels in the Ranger class allow.

Speaking of Rangers (and I hope this isn't old news for you), they can only equip up to light armor, such as leather. This is mainly due to their penchant for using the Hide and Move Silently skills to remain unseen.

In short, think of Drizzt wearing chainmail that's just about as soft as cloth, but about as protective as normal metal chainmail. ;)

Drizzt is actually a lvl 14/13 ranger/fighter so technically drizzt is better. Must have been all those years in the academy.

Link these threads you have responded to are atleast two years old. Please confine you answers to recent threads or threads that have questions that have not been answered.

If a thread has already been answered, it should be revived if it is linked to an on going discussion. Even then it is common policy that you link that thread instead of "bumping" it up once again.

Please do not revive threads that have already been answered. Thank you :)
