Again, this is *not* a thread to argue with people who want to identify what is, in their opniion, the most overrated rock/pop star, ever. State your preference, but please, don't argue with anybody else's. Thanks. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/)

(sorry fable this might start an arguement) The Beatles, i just don't see it, they produced quite a few decent songs but they were the first boy band (and we should hate them for that alone) and they produced nothing that earilier artists hadn't exceeded.
On a similar tangent, Oasis, the lyrical content might be okay, but the delivery is just a rip off of about 3 different artists and they don't even excel as plagerisers.
Silur will appreciate this one, Shaikra, she is just crap, i have recently had the misfortune to listen to her album...it is a myriad of styles all ripped off from others, my boss reckons it sounds like Soldier Blue but i wouldn't know about that. Her style is absolutely derivative and tiresome. There is also a definite eighties vibe *sigh*
p @tyb)
The Verve, i kind of appreciated the drugs don't work and another song on their album but generally they were a mediocre prog rock band with country roots *yawn*
Van Halen, erm, i just don't get it.
I will undoubtedly come up with more![Big Grin :D](./images/smilies/)

Agreed. The Beatles are horribly over-rated. I completely disregarded them in my post.Originally posted by Mr Sleep

LOL
The Verve? Theyre a 1-hit wonder. It hard to think that a 1-hit wonder is over-rated. They were huge for a few months, then they disappeared off the face of the earth.
Van Halen isnt that bad. I just hate their videos.

Michael Jackson
About 20 years ago, he truly was the "King of Pop". Now he's just a freaky guy who's rebuilt himself so that he's not black anymore. He lives that reclusive lifestyle that just begs for tabloid incursions and he can barely pass himself off as human. MTV Artist of the Millenium? What the hell is up with that?
On the flip side, he and Madonna practically made MTV, and Thriller is one of the best albums to come of out of the 80s, but what's he done lately (musically, I mean)? Nothing. His last three albums have basically been crap that have moved a handful of copies simply because they've got he name on the jacket.

I was about to mention Oasis, especially Liam Gallagher. I can't stand the way he sings.Originally posted by Mr Sleep

Michael Jackson's Ok. At least he has (or had, I should say) his own style, even though I'm not a fan. Just don't *look* at him now...

Charlotte Church. She is undertalented and has had way too much hype placed around her, she is not as skilled a singer as they would like to have you know. They purposely increased the warble in her voice to make her sound more mature.
Linkin Park, lets face it, they are just a Nu-Metal boy band
Alanis Morrisette, another artist who seems to be propelled by her own self involvement, she hasn't done anything original for ages.
Another one for George Michael, another entirely self involved artist with very little actual talent.
Fred Durst, the band themselves might have been quite good, but durst has no talent and seems to just purpertuate his own image for the media. As i heard it put so well the other day, he is one of the only pop artists that actually completely believes his own hype.
The Beegees, i really don't need to go on, but they remain (and always will remain) a one hit wonder, they had talent but they just have no charisma or any interesting songs..
Who would have thought i was so full of vitriol!![Big Grin :D](./images/smilies/)

Let's hear what you think! Brittney? Elvis? Bon Jovi?
My own vote goes to Rod Stewart, simply because he actually believes all the crap he's been slinging through the years about his own superstar status. At best, he could do a second-rate credible Stones imitation (Hot Legs), with a voice that makes Mick Jaeger sound like Enrico Caruso. And the ego on the guy could easily light up Cleveland, Ohio, for a month.
How about... all of them!

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Another two!
Dr Dre, i am not sure how exactly he is classed as hip hop, i am not even sure how he is classed as talented either. I was never impressed by anything he did, i really do not see the attraction.
Puff Daddy/P Diddy
D) Another artists whose hype is not warranted by his skills, a producer with some talent but no more than any other of the less famous producers. He also can not rap with any skill at all, he seems to be a famous artist by extension rather than on his own skill.

Re: The Cranberries?
I'm going to have to cast my vote to the Beatles, they really weren't that skilled musically, in fact there are plenty of lesser known bands that are better musicians.
I like the Cranberries too, it was just Zombie, Linger and Ode to My Family that were over-hyped. I like them, but they're not a 'big' band IMO, just a small-average one with some nice music.Originally posted by Maharlika
I never tought of tem as over-rated. In fact I lik a number of their songs and they never dawn on me as a hyped group.

Well, ok. Linkin Park isnt the best. In fact I only like the song: "In the End". But I certainly wouldnt call them a boy band. Just because there are all men in the group, doesnt make them a boy band. If that were so then groups like Metallica, Depeche Mode, U2, Kiss, WASP, and The Cure, among thousands more would also be considered boy bands, which is OBVIOUSLY not true. There is a certain style of music that makes boy bands boy bands. And Linkin Park doesnt sing that style. (I hate defending a group that I only like 1 song for.Originally posted by Mr Sleep

Ahem. Once again, please note:
This thread isn't about arguing who's worst. It's only about stating what you, personally, think are the worst. What part of that is difficult to understand?
No defenses. None. I want everybody to have their say on this without feeling someone is going to criticize their choices.
As Mel Brooks used to say in his films, "Everybody got that?"

I would have to say Elvis.......*ugh*
Elvis was empty......his music is empty........and I am perplexed at why women found him so attractive........
Of people that are still alive...... my vote goes to Michael Jackson.... *shudder* Beyond the appalling music, I can't respect anyone who has spent so much time distorting their original appearance.
As far as Britney Silicone Spears goes......
