wtf..is this right?

After getting ToB today, i installed and blah blah started a new game, with a druid shapeshifter. So at the start i quickly put on the gear that gets given to you, well the stuff that my druid could wear, talk to the statue then started fighting that first woman, the bhaalspawn one. After a solid 2 minutes of swining at her in normal form, trying impaler and then belm, i had hit her MAYBE once, so i tried greater werewolf, and just plain couldnt hit her. I checked my THAC0 and it said it was base 22, current 16? Does that sound right? How is anyone supposed to hit anything with a thac0 like that? especially seeing as he was level 14 already and had quite a few decent items on...is that a bug or does a shapeshifter really suck THAT much?

Have you been blinded?

She does cast a spell that will blind you. When blinded, you get a bad THAC0 penalty.

Either run around like a sissy till it wears off, or reload and hope for a save vs. spell.

Ya that could have been it, i had some icon on my face that i don't know what it meant, so i could well have been blinded...doh
