does it make sense to take this feat with fighter like characters?

It does if you wield large weapons like bastard swords or anything in 2 hands. By reducing the speed factor it lets you swing faster. Its well worth it if you weild a greatsword/axe or a halberd.

Just for the sake of argument,

The description of the skills says 'decrease by 1 to a minimum of 1'. Is there any place to check to see what my char's current speed rating is?
Hell, if my speed rating is 1 or 2, there's no point blowing a feat for 1 reduction; whereas, Casty-McSlowPoke the routin'toutin' cleric fighting guy might well need it.

Oh, and if the weapon speed stuff is in the manual, don't bother - I don't have friggin' x-ray vision to read that 2-pnt font type.

It would certainly be nice if they could integrate the information into a visual in-game format. Nice flowing charts with appropriate music background - maybe an intuitive interface to show level progression and race-based level caps.
