Helm's Hold . . . gem for pedestal ??

I've been all over the Hold and cannot find this gem . . . I thought I might get it in the courtyard (nope); I thought Desther might have it (nope); I thought the kid might sell it (nope). Am I just missing it? Do I find it someplace else and come back here later? Any help appreciated.

It's on the body by the front gate.

Actually after placing the gem, the guardians set off to protect the temple and attack your enemies there in the Hold.

But you lose around 700 xp

You can kill everyone in helms hold alone, no problem you dont need the guardians' help, my advice is, kill em.

ps: they were extremelly tough on hardest difficulty and of course a fun fight, died a number of times with my barbarian and daelan red tiger as my henchman.

Thanks, guys . . . I thought I was missing a major piece of this quest. Since I've already killed all the critters searching for the stupid thing, I guess I'll just move on.

BUTTTT...u wont get the experience if u dont find the gem and place it on the pedestal!

You can kill everything and then place the gem on the pedestal and still get the exp. If I recall correctly, it's only about 200 exp, at least on normal difficulty.
