Soloing sugestions

Post by garazdawi »

I'm thinking of soloing all of bg2, again. Anyone have any cool :p suggestions of what kinda char to use?

BTW does any one know how much MR the final boos of TOB (forgot her name) has? would it be possible to kill her as a spell caster? being a sorceror really seems apealing

she has 90% magical resistance.
and I say start with a warrior type class to solo with. it's way too hard as a magical class with no physical strength once so ever. be an undead hunter since they're immune to level drain and have the most useful abilities of every class in the game.
the monk is also a good soloing class from SOA to TOB from immunity to normal weapons later but they can't touch the final TOB boss in the 3rd battle from the infinite stoneskins that the boss has AND the invisible when active stoneskin on them.
I did a swashbuckler with the ability to use any item at all (read my evil path thread for more information) and I couldn't beat the final boss since my defense wasn't enough and I couldn't pierce the boss's armor.

I did a undead hunter and did not manage to kill mellisaan, I also did and assasin and managed to kill her trice.

wouldn't you kill mallisaan quite easy with a spell trigger of 3 lower mr or 2 LMR and a breach? that would bring her down to something liek 10 if you are lvl 36, I think it can be done if you cast the wish spell between each battle and recharge all spells

anyway I'm going to try a sorcerer and see how far I can get. so far I've reached only lvl 10 but hey i think it is possible.

How about Anti-Paladin, dualled at level 8 to Mage, to fully optimise the available 8million XP. This way you can dispel magic on every melee hit, and cast true sight + dispel once a day, as well as having Grand Mastery in the weapon of your choice. :)
In addition to casting lots of spells obviously.

You do however need rather impressive stats to pull this one off...

what class is the anti paladin? there's no such class in BG2 unless there's some patch that adds on new classes.
just what class group is the anti paladin?

So far I'm in the process of soloing a Berserker17/Mage and a Sorceror. I'd say try either of those the Berserker/Mage is easy, but the Sorceror is a bit challenging especially if you put off getting the magic license.

I tried a sorceror once, it was TOO hard. I quit soon after I got out of the first dungeon since everyone was too hard and it was annoying to have to reload my game like 8 times per fight after I was out of the first dungeon (before I quit trying to beat that fight).
classes with more might are easier then classes with more magic to solo with.

The Anti-Paladin is a class provided by Wes with the Valen Mod, however it is implemented as a fighter kit, which means you can dual class and achieve grand mastery. Anti-Paladins are essentially evil inquisitors, and dispel magic on every melee hit, regardless of what weapon you use.

Sorcerer is the solo machine..

Im currently taking one through soa / tob.. for about the fifteenth time (Yes I know im very boring)

If he is played well, tob is not hard.. Not by a long shot, soa is quite hard though, in the very early stages..
But heres some hints to get things going easier..many things that are generally not usefull for a party sorc

Get a cloudkill wand (Theres one in irens dungoen) sell it, buy it back..
Get minor sequencer before stoneskins, simply to be able to put two webs in it.. and cloudkill everything to death

Infact.. You need to even get a magic liscene with your trusty cloudkill wand, as stacked cloudkills will demolish cowled wizard bands (They dont use goi, only spell trap or deflection and it doesnt protect) though, the exp is lame at 14000 per band

Sunfire is very important, for killing drow and other high mr pesks

Cone of cold is a worthwile pick, since you dont need to worry about toasting party members and its damage is really really awesome (Equal to skull trap)

Agannazers scorcher, cast it at one guy.. then walk around and have it smoke his friends.. The best choice for multiple worthless foes like goblins and kobolds

Theres many more.. but there just some less obvois things

Even after a potion of insight (wis 18) the rest option still appears to be random.

How do you deal with traps while soloing a sorc? Do you just run into them, reload (because a lot of traps are lethal for pc's with low hp) and buff up?

Theres generally a spell to save you from every trap, if not.. allot of traps are also avoidable
