Help?
I want to play a scout/ranger type player but cant make up my mind on what type of armor to use and skills. I also was wondering if you can really ever do anything with your misc. skills. Or are they not good for anything? I want to roleplay and not spoil to much. (big mistake with bg2). If you want to post up some fun pre-made classes or your own just go right ahead.
Gorgan,
Personally, I think it is better to choose one from pre-made class for the first run of the game. I'm sure this game is not the one you play just once; there are so many options available in the game (and even before you start the game!). If you think scout is attractive, go for it! You have another chance to play something else. I'm only started the game a few weeks ago (as mage), and I will create a custom class next time.
You will use your misc. skills in the game. I paid a few golds to trainers to improve skills (they are cheeper when it's low level), and some skills improved while playing, because of necessity to use them. Even if you play fighter type class, you'll need spells and thieving skills at some point.
I suggest not to use any plug-ins during your first run, which will affect your original game, such as extra quest, new areas and species, or super-power weapons. There are plenty to do anyway.
Well, that's my opinion. Hope it helps, and enjoy the game!

Don't neglect your Misc. skills.
As it says in the manual about levelling up, improving skills with the same governing attribute will give you a bigger bonus when you next go up a level.
Misc. skills comes into that equation, though possibly at a reduced value.

It will work,if you want a scout/ranger I would use a short sword/bow for weapons athletics and arobics.( can't spell today
) Security is nice to so lock picking and disarming are available to you. you can minor or major this oneand in minor use illusion and restoration for spells unless you loke lugging potions around. Use light armor. Medium is nice but rangers/scouts are fast and agile. when you'r good with light armor it's as good as heavy. I'm using Glass now with the saviors curiuss. I had most of it enchanted to fortify my strength. this way I can carry more. ( there is also a plug in to make it so you can carry more, double what you can carry normally.) also having light armor allows you to carry a lot more that when wearing med or heavy armor. Hope this helps .

Leveling concern
I recommend selecting two if not all three armor skills as major or minor, along with things like alchemy, sneak, or security.
In essence, choose five minor skills which are useful but which improve slowly over time. If you max out your major and minors too quickly, you won't be able to level up any more (with difficulty, in any case).
Acrobatics and athletics tend to increase quickly from running and jumping around all of the time. So I would only pick one as a major or minor.
Also, endurance determines your hit points and very few skills affect endurance. So I would minor in heavy armor or spear as those two skills affect endurance and will give you multipliers when leveling. It's always good to have 2-3x multiplier for endurance when leveling early in the game so future leveling will generate more hit points. As it turns out, good endurance fits well w/ your ranger/scout class.
