Why does no-one like Nalia?
@Bobsy: Nice arguments, but I do not agree!!!!
I recalled earlier that you encounter even a bhaal spawn RABBIT,
and other strange races that I don't remember now.
Your "scientific" approach seems to fail here, I mean, even if
we assume Bhaal (in his human form) was SUCH (!) a pervert,
not all of his "interactions" would have ended in a new "son"!!
If we were speaking only 'bout humans, half-elves, half-orcs, your
points would make more sense!
Anyway, I don't care, I want the Imoen romance, that's all!
And found interesting what Aegnor said about this kind of relationship..
@Quitch: Are you referring to me??
Glad to see you shifted The Mod in the "present" duties!
But I have a question for you.
Will it be compatible with Ascension?
From what I've read it seems that

Nalia's sorta useful early. She brings some good easy quests. Her spellchucking comes in handy, especially her cloudkill spell. And with a good bow, she's useful as fire support in battle. On the downside, she's the worst thief in the game and never gets better. Yoshimo's a better thief, or if you want to match (and better) her dual class capabilities, Jan is a better choice and levels up fast enough that after a while he's a good enough spellchucker to be the second shooter in a mage-led party.
Mostly, though, she whines incessantly. I'm currently idling around Athkatla and keeping her on until we get the spurned suitor crap outta the way, then will probably dump her for more muscle (current party: a lawful evil mage, Minsc, Jaheira, Keldorn, Jan and Nalia).

Yes, she might, but she sounds more mature and attractive in ToB: she has become a really good mage and she doesn't complain often.Mostly, though, she whines incessantly. The Ascension team were generally big Imoen fans, so we certinally didn't doom her. When you see what happens, just rememeber Spellhold, and the solution will come.Originally posted by Littiz:

Yes, the MOD will be Ascension compatible.
It won't be just a romance either, it will offer you chance to simply have a sibling relationship with her.

Seems we're all Imoen fans... notice how a thread about Nalia turns into a discussion about the OTHER thief/mage.Originally posted by Quitch:

I always felt that Nalia was nothing more than a (slightly faded) carbon copy of Imoen put in to keep BG fans happy whilst Imoen is imrisoned by the cowled wizards. I mean, her stats are almost exactly the same.
Using the other non-evil mages, Aerie and Jan, means waiting longer to get 6th, 7th etc level spells. So if you don't go for evil (Edwin), Nalia will lead the way in acquiring high level spells, while giving the bare necessities in thief abilities.
Bhaal wasn't limited to taking a human form, or even humanoid. That's why I mentioned the slayer. We don't know what forms Bhaal could take, but I see no reason why a god couldn't take a rabbit form. Hell, you can turn into a rat using the cloak of the sewers, which isn't exactly a mind-blowingly powerful artifact now, is it?Originally posted by Littiz:

By the way, where is this Bhaalspawn rabbit? I don't recall ever seeing one.

immie is better than nalia in ALL respects. her whining is tolerable, look at my frigging sinature, I LIKE whiners, and she is stronger to carry more loot, and thief skills are better. whne I had goody two shoe party, immie was all thief I needed. now running the slightly whacko party, minsc and viccy and aerie, no surprise, jahiera, boo and lilacor. yep, lilacor you carry around, as a party member. tho underdark, it is not very usefull.
next time, might go with estrogen party, but drag nalia into underdark and hear her really whine...

@Inv: A hint about killing those Golems.. Do not go in and grab the weapons and let the golems jump you. It's best if you hit them one at a time, run outside of the golem area, then let them chase after you and jump them with your 2-3 toughest guys.. Be sure to have some +3 weapons or better, or you won't be able to kill the Iron Golem (I think the big one is iron).
I think the Clay Golem was probably the most difficult for me, but once I learned he could only take damage from Blunt weapons (I think that's correct), I just used the Flail of Ages +3 (which you can forge at this point I believe)
Use your other characters to pound on him and distract him, so that if you get low on HP you can run away and heal up then come back, and essentially rotate people out.. he will (I believe) target whoever attacked him first. Use the flail of ages on him and he should go down relatively easy.. A good "AID" spell might help here also to crank up your HP, (among other things)
As far as the stone golems, and flesh. They're both pretty much just slash and bash. They aren't too tough.
The Iron Golem WOULD be very very tough if it wasn't for THIS neat little trick..
The golem is too large to fit through that small little archway.. so if you have a character with a +3 or better ranged weapon I suggest the AzureEdge or similar, which can be purchased at the tavern in the slums (CC).. And it's relatively affordable due to the discount you get. ( Plus any rep adjustment in price, and the fact that you can steal it..) It's definately worth getting early in the game, as you will end up fightin lots of undead throughout the game.
Anyhow, back to the topic at hand.. The Iron Golem. The +3 AzureEdge, used as a thrown weapon.. simply run into the room, hit him with it (from distance), and then run through the doorway (make sure your entire party is out of the room.) Once he is stuck in the doorway he will continuously smash at the ground and grunt alot.. but you can pound on him for as long as it takes (usually only doing 2-3 points of damage at a time), until eventually he just dies.
It's a little cheap, but it was effective and it is legit. I know if I were playing actual AD&D and I ran into an Iron Golem at 10th level, I certainly wouldn't want to duke it out with him face to face.. I would fall back and take pot shots at him.
You may have already done/known all this stuff or there may be better strategies out there for this.. But this is how I did it, and I thought it was rather interesting, and effective.. Only took me 1-2 reloads to get it right. (Due to the clay golem.)
As far as the Keep goes... I would go back and reload the game (if it's not too late). There are some good weapons obtained in that keep.. Especially the bow.
Good luck.

Hey etherimp,
thanks for the tip,
i had previously used a tactic like that somewhere else, but it was after the d'arnise
hold.
Unfortunatly it is too late to reload and get back in, but there is always next time.

Depends on the wall bobsy..but in that Keep I could buy alot of time running through the halls as it chased me, and try to come up with something to throw in it's path to trip it up or something.. in BG2 you can't do creative stuff like that.
Btw.. Anybody ever wondered how the hell they got those Golems in the room anyway? rofl.. They either had to be created in the room, or lowered in via crane.

hey hey y'all,
i don't mean to ressuerect this strand but i wanted to add to the Nalia thing.
has anyone else found that in TofB, she has become very full of heself and kind of 'little miss ego'?
i actually think that she scared Aerie with her her little talk about reforming the D'arnise hold and taking over, or taking out( i can't remember), the cowled wizards.
And also the talk where she told Aeriethat she should go back to the avariel and make them respect her and let her back in, because Aerie could now 'wave her hand , say a word and disintergrate someone/thing'.
her comments are also getting funny, " you cannot match our power" is one of my favourites.
i am not sure whether i like this nw Nalia as much as the old one, whining 'n' all!

thats kinda gross.
anyway, i know why people like immie better.
she's better looking. nalia is just plain ugly. she has the worst portrait i've ever seen. excepting maybe mazzy's wierd haircut....
but nalia is....aesthetically challenged...must be the inbreeding of the nobility of amn...

@ Invincible121 -- may I ask what's wrong with the new-ToB-Nalia? She was a whinny girl then, and now she's just a mature, indepedent mage. Life is changing, people are changing, why not Nalia as well? Well, my preference still goes for Nalia (sorry, Littiz! )
As for the aesthetic point, we have to admit that her portrait is not the best it could had been done. Poor Nalia!
Cheers

I think that Nalia is a decent mage...it' her attitude, which IMO is truly patronizing..... I believe that Jaheira initially says something about her exuding class difference yet acting as though she is unaware of it..... This sums it up quite well.
Also, as others have pointed out, it is quite irritating to be wandering around a dungeon (especially one you can't quickly escape) while having her lament about helping "the less fortunate."
That being said, however, with the possible exception of Mazzy (IMO anyway), all of the NPCs have their individual annoying quirks.

I agree. Mazzy is the best female NPC in SoA. The only problem is her race... . If it weren't for her race, everyone would like a Mazzy romance. If I'm mistaken, please correct me.
