Great Shapechange spell bug

Post by MasterDarkNinja »

A while ago I found a great bug with the shapechange spell for wizards. it's a level 9 spell (so the bug is almost useless in SOA by the time you can get your hands on a scroll of shapechange, but it's not useless in TOB).
here's what you do. first get a wizard to have a scroll of shapechange or to learn memorize shapechange.
next cast the spell. you shall see a new symbol appear over the wizard face. you now have the shapechanging abilities if you hit f12.
next part (the bug) select your wizard with the mouse (Quickly!!!) and click Ctrl + R (the healing cheat). (if you have just SOA and not TOB installed then I think that you have to hit Ctrl + T due to changes done on curing conditions).
after that the picture should of disappeared that appeared when you cast shapeshift. next hit f12 and look you still have the shape changing ability's, and better yet you can cast them an infinite number of times a day, the numbers listed on them do get bugged up later but it doesn't hurt anything (the numbers should always be a one, which lies about the times you can cast it)

there you have it a bug in SOA that is very handy. I found it out the first time that I played BG2 (and beat the game). of course I was just cheating that time which made me have an easier time finding out this cheat/bug.

Important note about this cheat. you must enable cheating (ways found on any BG2 cheat site) to make this bug work.

You say that this "trick" is useless in SOA, but quite handy in TOB. Why then post it in the SOA forum.

I posted it in here since if you cheat yourself to a shapechange scroll it can be useful in SOA. also you Can do it in SOA since shapechange isn't some new TOB spell (though you never get to enjoy 9th level spells in SOA really from not being able to memorize it.) so I posted it here.

actually this one has been posted about a year ago....

cntrl -r is restore in tob, soa.....

but really, shapechange is often a misunderstood spell...its not really to let a sorc melee or a fighter mage even enhance their combat,....disabling magic makes it not so good...

its best for when you are taking your party into a meatgrinder, casting it allows your mages to survive while fighters mince the enemy....

but in emergencys, shapechanging a kensai mage to mindflayer with improved haste will kill anything quick....

yes, you do keep kensai ac and thaco bonuses while shapechanged....

:p
They call me Darth...

hey that bug is handy for thieves in TOB!!!. my soloing swashbuckler in the "my evil path" thread in the TOB forum had the shapeshift bug on them, that recovery really helped me take down dragons and some other hard bosses, that was the ONLY cheat I did however.
so you see you can always bend the rules for what seems to be a useless spell to make it very useful and powerful.

yeah with a thief you can turn into a troll or greater werewolf and recover HP faster then your enemies then take it away from you.
also here's another bug with it.
it's in TOB only from where you have to be so...
Spoiler's

in the watcher's keep on the 3rd floor where there are wild serges (I think it was there). if you try to transform into a form it transform another party member into that form instead of you!!!. the only problem is that if they don't get the transform into normal form ability that they will be stuck in their new form forever unless you use Ctrl + R on them.
