Poll: BG not a good thing for your reactions.

Post by TheDude »

Think of it BG(1,2 ToSC ect.) are not good for your reactions or gaming speed.
Whenever there is danger there is one buttom to save u SPACEBAR.
After u hit it u can easely think of how u are going to handle the danger and take your time to make sure u think of everything so u can win the battle.

Problem is we are spoiled with the SpaceBar!!!!

i also play a lot of other games Like Red Alert and every time i get attacked i want to take it easy and hit the SpaceBar so i can plan the battle.
but what the heck  no pause
and one blown away camp :(
so actually games like BG don't aquire a lot of skill or am i wrong???

I like to know what u think of it do u think u do need some great skills to play BG or not??

well, i don't know if all that much skill is needed. the problem isn't the spacebar though. The more time you have to consider what you whant to do, the more the game becomes challemging to your mind, not the speed of your fingers. Anyway, whether it is challenging or not... it is LOTS OF FUN :D :)

i don't say it is not challeging i lovethe game really.
but i think u get behind other gamers whenit comes to speed.
There are a lot of online games that require a lot of finger quicknis.
Games like Quake, Red Alert, FiFa2001, Unreal Tournament ect.
And i think we fall behind of them because we become lazy because of the SpaceBar.

have you ever tried playing without the spacebar? It is SO hard because your guys move so fast you have trouble clicking on them to give them commands.

I think without the spacebar the world would be a dark and dreary place with people walking into cloudkill and so on.
I will crucify him...real bad

Pausing isn't a bad thing, combat in DnD should be turn-based IMO. It's more fun to pause and think of creative ways to kill some lowly kobolds too. I'd guess you're the melee heavy type, coz a game without pause to choose spells is a pain for mages.
I'm not so strictly lawful neutral
now.

But games like RA aren't as complex as BG. If you have a party consiting of 6 tanks and get them the attack all that move button you don't need spacebar but when you want to manage 4 spellcasters its another thing

I see BG2 not as a real time strategy game that can be paused, but as a turn based strategy game that can be set to real time if you want. :)

D&D is turn based.
BG series use a real time/turn based system, we can pause if we think that we sould take some more time to think about some action.
If BG series was turn based like D&D (you have to give actions to every NPC every turn) it would make battles very long...

- Shadowdale low level adventure module.

- Rashmare /Thay high level adventure module.

I agree, but why does everyone compare with RA? Now, Starcraft, there's a great (and challenging) RTS game. A combination of complex spellcasting (not nearly as complex as BG though) and no space bar :)
Not saying that there is anything wrong with the spacebar, BG would be practically impossible wihtout it.
BG2 rules BTW.

yes i agree Ra is really good.
though RA 2 was a little bit (no actually of whole lot) disapointing.

but try this play BG for a month or 2 almost every day.
and then try to play 1 game vs. the computer with RA (or something like that, quake is ok or unreal)
And u will get your but kicked!!!!
Thgat is my whole point, i love BG i8 do play it the last 4 months almost everyday this is my 4rt time through in a row (is that a record BTW ?? :D :D ), but it isn't a speedy game and your finger quicknis are going down with playing the game.

good thing 'm on this board al the time practicing finger quicknis by typing a lot of posts :D :D
