Why impossible fights??
Why impossible fights??
Klauth (dragon at bottom of fire giant cave, dungeon, whatever) . . . I have 12 symbols next to my portrait, boots of speed, level 7 spells, +3 greatsword and bow, Tomi and a summoned fighter (level 7). I give Klauth the dead-dragon sphere, which reduces him to "only" 200 hit points. I've tried a variety of potions, spells and summoned creatures but all magic and melee attacks do no damage whatsoever and are just an exercise in futility. If I do happen to get him down to "near death", he just hits me with a 150-point fire breath thingie of some kind and it's over. What is the point of putting the player into impossible situations like this ?? It would be one thing if I was coming really close to winning but he's still got 170-180 hit points left when he blows me away!! After trying for nearly 2 hours, I have determined that there is just no way I can get this Word of Power, so I guess it's "Game Over". (shrug) Btw, I REFUSE to change the difficulty setting; it's set on D&D rules and when I have a fairly strong party and a variety of options available to me, I shouldn't have to be a wuss and reduce it to "easy"!! If there is some trick to this fight, I'd love to hear about it.
Woo hoo ! Floor pie !! (Homer Simpson)

Tomi, IMHO, isn't the best company here, Linu, in my experience, is better. Some elemental instead of fighter would be beter as well.
However, i was here as a druid able to cast a 9th level spell and being able to make him a nice company so i'm not a judge

Klauth is tough, but not impossible. I remember giving him the the dead dragon sphere and simply bashed him till he stopped moving (using some full healing potions with a Ranger/Rogue, no henchman, no animal companion).
Since his fire breath is the only real danger, some elemental protection or good saving throws could help. I reloaded once and in the second fight I didn't get hit by his breath weapon. The first time I got hit by his breath when I tried to move away from him in order to drink some potions, so the second time I stayed close.
Another option against "impossible" enemies is to lure them onto a road of traps, eg trap the whole bridge which leads to Klauth.

If the fire breath is giving you a headache, then just gulp a potion of fire resistance and/or cast a spell that grants fire resistance. Improving your dexterity or reflex save also helps, since you save vs. reflex to avoid breath attacks. My fighter/rogue was pretty much immune to his fire breath, since he had high Reflex and Evasion. As for dealing with the rest of his attacks...I haven't played a mage yet, so I can only speculate. Yet I soloed with my fighter/rogue, and I was able to take him down in melee without too much trouble (lots of potions though). I know for a fact that Daelan was more powerful than my PC (he could kill him one-on-one just about every time), so take him along and he should be able to take down Klarth almost single-handedly (provided he has some potions).

Sorcerer - solo
Summoned a fire elemental (thinking it would not be affected by the dragon's fire breath).
Summoned the elemental very close to him, ran back to the bridge while the elemental tanked.
Just dropped area-effect spells (ice storm, cone of cold, wilting, etc).
The dragon actually did kill off the elemental and as he was approaching, I lobbed one last maximized cone of cold at him - one dead dragon.
Previous to this tactic, I reloaded about half a dozen times, swore up a storm, etc trying to solo this beastie.

Well, now, my 20 lvl Monk with the Ring of Power, Amulet of Wisdom+3, gauntlets (+5, cold damage), Improved something of Old Order and some other equipment (Boots of Gargole for Stoneskins including), using the Harp of Wind for Elemental Swarm and with support of Linu defeated Klauth (poisioned) in one turn or a bit more without reloads and causualities. It appeared Klauth was sensible to the Improwed Knockdown (at least 3 times, there were misses and resisting, too). Well, of course, all possible potions were used, too, although there was no healing during the fight..

Never underestimate the power of the dark side. My evil cleric was able to kill the dragon(not poisoned) by a very easy method and guess what it is .................................................................................................................................................. yes you got it right it's the all mighty Harm spell. Damn it bioware should do something to balance this spell out, it's just too damn wicked.

According to rules they should, nonetheless my monk successfuly used Improwad Knockdown on all dragons he had honor to fight (patch 24). There's a slight difference, though, because they are said to be immune to Knockdown, not to Improved Knockdown (although the immunity to crtical should be an essence in both cases, so i do not exclude a possibility that that's a bug).Originally posted by Andrinor
I thought dragons were immune to knockdown?

My 3monk/12 Druid just ran into Klauth and got his arse handed to him on a
silver platter with hot sauce.
My current Attribs when buffed are:
STR:15, DEX:10, CON:16, INT:16, WIS:28, CHA:8.
I give Klauth the sphere , gets him down to Near Death and there it stops. My
character cant hit him for sheit and all he does is throw Greater Dispell on me so
all my buffs dissapear, then he blows me away with his fire breath.
I have basically ZERO offesive spells , except Ice storm which Klauth seems
to resist very easy. My chars HtH dmg is 1-6+4 and if i transform into a
bear i get wtfpwned by his regular attacks since my belt stop sucking up
those 20 slashing dmg.
I could summon lvl5 animals, have Dealan and my pet but that dont help -
they all die from his breath. What to do .
