1 lvl of fighter for Mordakai the sorcerer?

Post by free_fall »

I have seen many people express the opinion that one should never multiclass sorcerers but would 1 or 2 levels of fighter really be that detrimental to further progression as sorcerer?

I'm playing with the Halgren Death's Head party of neutrals (which was kind of a pisser when I received the Moonblade of Selune as a reward and no one could use it).

Everyone just went to lvl 7 except Mordakai; he has the XP to do so but I wanted to get some feedback on whether I should give him 1 lvl of fighter before leveling him up.

Aside from the HP/feats boost this would give him, what really piques my curiousity is the sword 'Mordakai of Thay'. It strikes me as odd that the designers would include an item named after a character who hasn't the proficiency to use it. Not that I would neccessarily have him wield it if he does gain the ability - he currently wields the Vampiric club in melee - he just could really use the extra HP.

Advice appreciated. TIA

i'm rather fond of my barbarian 2 sorc x wild elf, unless there is something i'm missing about the blade, barbarian may be a better "power" fit, after all i don't want my mage wearing platemail ever. the speed boost & few extra hp's really come in handy, when the game chooses to focus all the monsters attacks on my sorc.

the other downside is what race is your sorc? if you run into prefered class conflicts forget the whole idea.

Actually the sword is not just called the sword of Mordakai of Thay, it is given the name of whoever is leading your party at that time. Put one of your other characters in the lead position, talk to the person who's selling it, and the name will change.

Thanks. Someone on Planet BG forum also alerted me to the changing name thing, which continues to shift after the sword has been purchased I've discovered.

(The sword itself is no big deal BTW - 1D8 with Attack +1 and Cold resistance 1/-)

I went ahead and took Sorc at lvl 7 - HP went from 35 to 40. At lvl 8, took Fighter - with 1 pt to Const and the Toughness feat, HP shot up *22* pts to 62! Took Fighter again at lvl 9 for another 17 HP, shooting past my Rogue with 72 HP.

Will go with Sorc for lvl 10 & 11 and prob take another Fighter at 12. After my Rogue hits lvl 10 and gains the extra feats, I'll prob give her a couple Fighter, too.
