Items not appearing!?

Post by EtherImp »

When I originally got BG2 I didn't have the "perfect manual" by Versus books, so I really had no idea the game I was getting into.. Nor was I aware of the GameBanshee website at the time.. I went through the first few chapters completely on my own until I absolutely got stuck, then looked for help.. Not that this is completely relevent to what I'm about to ask, but it's a good starting paragraph, as I'm not sure if it's just me, it's a bug, it's some mod/patch I have installed, if it's some random effect intentionally added to the game, or if there are some special circumstances involved.

I have noticed that throughout the game on different quests I simply do not recieve certain items. For example, on my current "single player" quest, I did not recieve the girdle of gender change where it was supposed to appear. In fact, as of yet, I have not recieved it at all and I did exactly as I was supposed to, and no, I did not cast any "item killing" spells such as fireball, polymorph other, flesh to stone, etc. In another "multiplayer" quest, I did not recieve the Mail of the Dead +2 where it was supposed to appear in the first dungeon. I also did not recieve the Lions Head Statue from the spirit upon completing my Ranger quest. If I looked through the book again I could probably find 2-3 other items that I have somehow not recieved.

My question is pretty much in the first paragraph, but to summarize: What happened to these items? Is it a bug? What causes them to not appear?

While we're on the subject of strange happenings... Call me a newbie, but I wasn't aware a fighter was supposed to get innate abilities?

I created a lawful evil (I think lawful) pure fighter, and for some reason he recieves "horror" and a few other nasty "Spells" as innate abilities. Is this normal?

To my knowledge the only patches/mods I have installed are those that are RECCOMENDED to install either to fix problems such as the jaheira romance or item/spell effect bugs. To my knowledge nothing I downloaded and installed was meant to effect the items/innate abilities appearing in the game.

Those spells you mentioned are part of your pc's heritage. He or she is a Child of Bhaal, hence the extra powers.
Can't help you with the other stuff. I know some stuff appears at random, but certain items (like mail of the dead) should really be there.

Do you only get those extra abilities if you're evil? Or if you select a certain class (like fighter) who doesn't already have those special abilities?

All new characters recieve the extra innate abilities. But your alignment determines which abilities you get. (cure light wounds, slow poison and draw upon holy might are "good", larlochs minor drain, horror and vampiric touch are "evil") So, if you're lawful good you'll get two of each of the "good" abilities, and if you're chaotic evil you'll get two of each of the "evil" abilities. If you're alignment is somewhere in between, you'll get a mix.

I've never found a girdle of gender change but my younger brother has cheated himself to it, just where is it supposed to be?
hmm I just checked the TOB versus book and it says for the girdle of gender's location
location: you don't really want this, do you? I think we'll just let you find it on your own...
hmm...
well as for other stuff I don't know what could of happened to the mail of the dead +2. also I've never done the ranger stronghold quest so I don't know what your supposed to get there.

Thats not true. I allways play Chaotic Good........and I got Vamperic Touch or Horror or Larloch's MD sometimes. So the aligment doesnt completly determines your special abilities.

About the MoonDog.......
I play an ARcheR........and I did got it. Did you finish the LATEST quest related to the Ranger stronghold??
Spoiler!!

U have to rescue the Umar Hills from umar herself. She is a witch who is in the first area when u entered the place from the shadow lord.

Remember this is the last of the related questst.....there are (I believe) 2 more before this one.

Yes, I completed all of the quest. But even if I hadn't, that still wouldn't explain the mail of the dead +2 and other things not showing up.

The girdle of gender change you're supposed to get from the imprisoned Githyankee in the Underdark. A globe with "numerous facets". When you turn certain facets on the globe it releases various characters.. One is a Githyankee with a magical sword and a girdle of gender change, or, so says the Versus book.. But the girdle didn't show up for me.

Hmmmm.... That's weird. I NEVER got The sex change girdle in bg2, but I got it in bg(the ogre in the second outside area you can go to).

I never found it there, I have done that quest plenty of times. well it seems that I'm not alone on that one. my younger brother has cheated himself to it though by typing in belt with random numbers.

he got some funny rejected stuff like this one purple cup thing he got that makes the drinker run around in fear for 12 hours after drinking. he drank it and that's just what happened.

No mail of the Dead for me either in one game, strange, in another I didn't get given the Dragon ward stone or piece of sun symbol (Had to CLUA in order to finish Hills). Bizzare

At the time had some mods etc, but now with clean slate- no problems, wonder if its a mod doing the damage?
