Thats what got me into NASCAR and CART in the first place, but I discovered theres more to racing then the accidents.
Yeah, the BIG wrecks at tracks like Daytona and Talladega are kind of scarry sometimes. Those wrecks could take out maybe 15-25 cars in one wreck. Sometimes cars get airborne and flip multiple times. Though this isnt usually the case on the other 17 racetracks they go to.
This week is Kansas Motor Speedway, where it is about 1.5 miles long and the speeds are around about 170 mph. The racing can get quite good at this track. Next week is Talladega where the big wreck could happen. The speeds there tend to be about 190 mph. (Sorry I dont know kmph...)

There are 43 cars in each field. Usually about 47 attempt to qualify, but there are only 43 allotted spots.
Actually cars getting airborne and flipping isnt usually that harmful to the driver. The car is losing momentum as it flips, which means the hits are less severe. Drivers have been hurt badly or even been killed by wrecks that they collide straight into a wall without the chance of hitting the breaks. Put this into the equation and then add certain angles upon impact and unforseen errors, and it could be a fatality. In the 11 years Ive been a fan of racing, Ive witnessed 3 drivers losing their life. None in a big flip wreck. All of them died when they were directly shot into a wall by either a flat tire or another car tapping them towards the wall. Its scarry. But its a rarity.
But thats reffering to NASCAR. (stock cars-full body cars)
In CART (Open wheels like F1) -its usually the flips that are more dangerous. In the 4 years Ive watched CART, there has been 1 casualty and thats because he flipped and his head and top of the car was the first thing that hit something. Now THAT was horrifying to see.

BTW, the most boring race is Le Mans, snoooooor. I've seen one flip there. The main reason being that cars in this race are very light.
No, theres plenty of room for them except on 1 track-called Bristol, where thats only .5 mile track and theres no real room, but there are always accidents there, so many cars get retired from the race, and then theres plenty of room for them to go.
Thats because Le Mans is an endurance race and is road racing. It deals with driver fatigue more than action on the track. Certainly there is heavy competition, but the passes you see on the track are far less than what you see in NASCAR. Also the races in NASCAR tend to last for 3 1/2 hours while Le Mans is a 24 hour race so its hard to watch the whole thing.

I wouldn't even have patience to watch a Nascar race it seems

@BM It doesnt seem like that long a time because Im also a fan of a few drivers, so if the wrecks and racing isnt exciting I cheer for them. However if the people I cheer for are out of the race and there is little action on the track, thats when I stop watching. But thats a rarity.

Well thats true. Im sure if Jeremy Mayfield wins today's race Ill be celebrating here. But he hasnt won a race in a couple years, so his chances are not looking terribly bright at this moment.

just a bit of statistics: the ryders cup has been played 24 times. Previously the european team had won the final day two times(last time in -91) Today they crush the americans(pardon any american) with 7 1/2 to 4 1/2 this is reason enogh to celebrate

Woo, the tention!! I couldn't bear it.... and I wasn't even watching.
Actually, I strongly believe golf is a sport to play than watch. I don't watch golf, with exception of the Ryders Cup and final few round of the Open. The Ryders Cup is worth watching, especially when Europe beats the US.
