Les Mots D'Heures: Gousses, Rames
Has anyone read this book? I don't know how famous or widely known it is, but it has come to me through a friend, and I love it, and I am sure that it is just up the people of SYM's street . It is a book of French poems, all with a peculiar quality, which I will not spoil the fun by giving away - I will just give you a sample poem (an easy one) and see if you can figure it out. Try reading it aloud if you cannot figure it out, or have someone with a good French accent read it to you.
Papa, blague chipe
A vieux inoui houle
Y est-ce art? Y est-ce art? Trepas que se foulent
Aune format masure, en nouant format theme
En nouant fleur-de-lis de bois de solive en delienne.

Yes, it is good (if archaic, anachronistic and colloquial) French. I do not know anyone French, but I would love someone French to read them and see what comes up. I do not know if the book was distributed in France. I cannot imagine that it would have been very popular

I am an heathen and I don't speak another language but using the wonders of the internet I saw through the mists of language and used babelfish to convert the passage...babelfish is wonderful I am sure you agree:
Is dad, joke bates A old inoui swell Y art? There is this art? Trepas that press Aune format hovel, by tying format theme While tying flower-of-read of wood of beam in delienne.
Hmmm it really speaks to me (LMAO )

I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.
I am glad we could all get something positive from this. Personally I think it is the gothic references and sublimely harsh implementation of the iamb which makes this poem really devastating. However, it does lose something in the translation, I feel

PS, my post was not spam (like Thugs ) - I don't rate French poetry... just my POV.

Hmm...So I wonder if there is a correlation between age and the ability to detect the joke in discussion? It seems that me (15), Bloodmist (15?) and Beowulf (16?17?) got it, but Grunt, Thug and Ysh (all 20+) did not....hmmmm *stokes beard*
EDIT - Sorry, that was meant to be '*strokes beard*'. LOL Ysh

P.S. @frogus - I'm 16
Your knowledge is impressive
And your argument is good
But I am the resurrection, babe,
And you're standing on my foot!

Either that or Babelfish is absolutely useless Not that I have any frame of reference I just assume its powers of a deduction are a little lacking, kind of like Sherlock holmes without the pipe, tweed or magnifying glass.

Hmm i don't know, I'm over 20 and got it...maybe it's just certain people
