Kangaxx the Demilich (sigh)
Kangaxx the Demilich (sigh)
Alright, so, I'm at the DemiLich. I know ya'll have probably seen this topic a dozen times, so I'll try to avoid being too whiney, but..
I go in, I prep all my players with booster spells and protections, imrproved haste, invisibility, etc.. I go up to the SOB and open his tomb, he comes out, he talks, I start whooping on him.. He throws up a "protection from magical weapons" among other things.. I break through that with my mages, and I start slamming him.. He DOES NOT DIE from my weapons no matter how long I pound on him, so I start slamming him with magic such as flame strike, false dawn, sunray, etc..
Finally, he turns into the demilich.. I start slamming on HIM, and while my main guy is STILL slamming on him I somehow get the "death" video. . . note: My main character is STILL whacking on him right as the death video is playing.
WHY am I dying and how do you beat this son of a *****?

Have you tried doing a search on "demilich" or "demi-lich?" There are at least a dozen topics that cover more than a hundred approaches (many of them admittedly duplicative) to dealing with him.

All possible questions concerning BG2 has been debated here. So if we are not going to turn this forum into a FAQ I think it is fair to ask the questions again.
kangaxx the demi-lich is using his innate ability, trap the soul, to imprison your PC and other NPC's. You can protect yourself from this by using Spell turning, Spell Immunity Abjuration, Berserker rage, Slayer transformation, Protection from magic scrolls, Spell trap, shield of archons and maybe something else.

Oh, it's fair, @Bruce Lee. Did you see me close the topic?
But by that same token, it's only fair to point out to EtherImp that he misses out on so much more if he doesn't use "search," in this case. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/)

You'll need a +4 weapon to hit Kangaxx in Demilich form. The only exception is the Mace of disruption, since Kangaxx counts as undead it won't hurt him physically but still can kill him outright.
As far as I know, the only shops that sell +4 weapons are Adventurers Mart (Staff of Rhynn) and - given ToB is installed - the Vigil Knights in Watchers Keep (Short Sword of Mask). Of course there are other weapons in the game that are powerful enough, but these have to be found first.
Kangaxx takes only a small amount of damage damage per hit, so the fight may take longer than berserk mode lasts, on the other hand I think that Kangaxx casts only 1 Demilich Howl (save or be dead) and 9 imprisonments (see the protections listed by Bruce). Btw, Kangaxx never changes targets, so once he targets a protected person, the fight is practically over.

I noticed Flail of The Ages was doing damage to him, I THINK. Not the damage roll itself but 2 points of damage from Acid and Fire? I could be wrong.
What about the Daystar, and Equalizer? (I have my Ranger duel wielding both.) I believe Daystar is +4 vs Evil creatures, and duels double damage to undead. What is Equalizer vs Kang?
I also have Staff of Magi (Aerie) and the Holy Sword (Keldorn).
I don't think I'll have any problem actually hitting him and dealing damage. I was more worried about why the game was ending for no apparent reason. I wasn't about to look up on the text screen to see what he was casting to kill me, and I didn't see the typical animation that plays when Imprisonment is cast.
I do thank you for the link to the other information, as it came in handy. Plus I did look up some previous post. I was just being lazy. Had been up for quite a while and was stuck on him. Wanted a fast answer.
Thanks again.

Graveyard district: Krypt King (door left of Bodhi's Lair), He's got a +4 longsword.
Adventures Mart or some temple: Bye scrool of Protection From Undead. Use it on Kangaxx when he turns into a Demi-Lich.
READ ONLY IF POWER GAMING: Open his tomb, before he'll see you, use ANOTHER Protection from undead, use pickpocket, steal his FIRST ring of gaxx, kill him get ANOTHER ring of gaxx.

Namarra, I assume?
The Namarra is a +2 enchanted sword, but with a +4 damage bonus.
@Bruce Lee - welcome back!

You must be confusing it with an other sword.
The Namarra is +2 enchanted, and Kangaxx can only be hit with +4 weapons.
Someone else hit Kangaxx with it?
I am quite sure that I hurt him with it. Cause' I remember that I killed him VERY early in the game, because of the sword. But ofcourse I might be confusing it with another sword, in that case I guess I have a bad memory.
Traps may be the most elegant way to kill him. Place some traps in the top right corner and some where he appears. When he appears they will kill his first form, then use ring of the ram to shoot him across the room towards the other traps and they will finish him off. He wont get any spells of at all hehe. Killed by a simple thief, how agonizing that must be for a thousand year old demi-lich!!

Well if you really want the ring but you dont care about killing the lich heres what I did:
With Jan, I just simply walked up to him and pickpocketed the lich. Thats right, I pickpocketed a floating head.
The ring was there, so I picked it up and made a mad dash for the exit.
Obvioulsy, before hand I summoned some sacrificial creatures for him to take his damages on, while Jan did pickpocket him.
Once I got through the exit, I had the ring and Kangaxx didnt follow.
I posted this story once before on Gamebanshee, way back in Oct. 2001, so I figured not many people remember it.![Big Grin :D](./images/smilies/)

“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.
