Hand and Eye (of vecna)

Post by dios »

Does anybody know if The "Hand of Vecna" and The "Eye of Vecna" can be found in BG1? I've heard some rumors about them but i'm not really sure...

No.
It's pretty easy, I mean just go kill a dragon, get laid.

just because I got no ****,
I'll shave my legs and wear a bra,
I'll even cut my p**** off for you."

Now that's a love poem if I ever heard one.

And no, I don't think you do.

If I remember correctly ... this rumor was often debated at the old Interplay BG forums, nobody ever found one of the two, so it's probably a rumor that exists until today.

No offense, but .... just because they "exist" somewhere in the code or the item database they don't have to be available in the game. That's how these rumors start usually and iirc that's how the discussion about Vecna's remains started - someone found that these items were coded, altough not available. ;)

No offense taken. My point was just the opposite. I was saying that if you can't find these items in Gate Keeper then they don't exist - not the same as saying that if you find an item in Gate Keeper that it will be in the game.

That's pretty much true. ;)

And since dios checked it with GK they're probably just a rumor.

About the GK thing, there is an item in BG2 that is NOT in Gate Keeper, I've checked. Repeatedly. The prize item you get after a stronghold quest isn't on there.

*Minor Spoiler*
Robe of Vecna in SoA...and IIRC there's a Vecna thing in Planescape: Torment (I think that's the eye).

I don't have the exact stats in front of me but the Hand and Eye of Vecna are two disgustingly powerful artifacts that should never be allowed in a player's hands (Especially because they’re evvviiilllll and will warp a PC's mind). Image

Yep, though it wasn't a fraction as powerful in PS:T as it is in PnP. Image Though that's probably a good thing, since otherwise it would be way unbalancing.

Wonder what the story is supposed to be behind this Vecna fellow? Sounds a bit like that Golodon the Unmanned necromancer. I think you are correct about the Planescape reference.

From PS:T description:

"It is said that Vecna was one of the Planes' mightiest sorcerers, able to draw life from dust and send it back again, extinguish lives with a glance, and make the earth shudder beneath his touch. He was said to be so powerful that when the end of his life drew near, death refused to take him into its kingdom.

And so Vecna died, yet lived on.

Abandoned by death, Vecna became the master of a vast kingdom on a prime world called Oerth
(Greyhawk). Neither kind nor just, Lord Vecna's rule was one of great horror and suffering, and it is said his reach was so great that even the Powers of Oerth feared to cross him for fearing of drawing his eye.

Yet, while Vecna's gaze traveled ever outward in search of new conquests, he failed to see his own end when it came for him... in the form of his lieutenant, Kas.

As was fitting for Vecna's left hand servant, the arch-lich had fashioned a terrible weapon for his lieutenant as a symbol of his authority. Vecna made this weapon with such skill it is said that part of the sorcerer entered the blade, and it was this sliver of Vecna that gave the blade its life and its treacherous nature. Where once there was lifeless steel, there became thought, intent, and, perhaps most horrible of all, a voice.

The sword whispered treacheries to the ambitious Kas, night upon night, month upon month, year upon year, until one night, the remains of Kas' discipline was seduced by the rippling edge of the blade. Convinced by his blade that he was Vecna's superior, Kas confronted his dread master upon his Desiccated Throne, and the two of them fought a terrible battle.

During the battle, Kas was killed, but before he fell, his blade had dismembered his former master, scattering his remains so that no one may draw them together again. And so it has come to pass that pieces of Vecna have made their way across the Planes..."

As it turns out Vecna ended up being sent to the Demiplane of Dread (Ravenloft) where he became one of the Lords. He was trapped in Ravenloft for a number of years until finally figuring a way to escape in the module Die Vecna Die. In it Vecna has devised a way to simultaneously ascend to full-fledged godhood (he was a demi-power), escape from his prison in the Demiplane of Dread, and usurp arguably the most powerful entity in the multiverse: the Lady of Pain. To carry out his elaborate plot, Vecna has lured his old rival demigod Iuz to the Demiplane of Dread. Iuz hopes to destroy Vecna and claim the Maimed Lord's power for himself, but Vecna intends to turn the tables on his nemesis. He fuses Iuz's power with himself and (while his divine status is still in flux) takes off to Sigil where he gives the Lady of Pain a good b!tch slap and starts remaking the multiverse in his own image. Eventually the players in the module stop him (with the help of the Hand and Eye of Vecna, which gives the players some resistance to his godly power) and Vecna is kicked out of Sigil. The fallout results in the multiverse looking a little different (explaining the changes from AD&D to 3e cosmology of the planes), Vecna still a greater god, and back in Greyhawk after all his years in exile.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

From somewhere, I heard that one of the items can summon demons or something like that. I'm not sure though.

BTW - that Desenex stuff is great but I like the stuff in the tube better than the spray. :D

If you like that you should try some of this:

RetarDEX toothpaste contains no animal by products and is non foaming for superior oral care. RetarDEX toothpaste does not contain sodium lauryl sulphate, the foaming detergent present in most toothpastes. This means that, as your mouth does not feel full of suds, you can carry on brushing your teeth for longer. RetarDEX toothpaste has a low level of abrasiveness due to the silica polishers and is effective in removing staining from food, drink and tobacco.

Pardon my lack of understanding, but what is the connection between Vecna and Desenex, and why is athlete's foot powder such a big topic? Maybe athlete's foot just isn't my thing.
