Demis have you heard of this glitch? (spoiler, sorta)

Post by raphjd »

Demis

Thanks for all the great help.

Now I need a bit more.

Have you heard of this one, in the "Prison Level" along the bottom level (don't know the GB map room number) there's a room that flashes light out of the coffin and you get a two handed sword from the coffin. The light flashes into the rooms on either side and the hallway too. Also the doors poison trapped and you get attacked by a lot of bad guys.

Everytime I get near that room the game crashes back to desk top. So the last time I played through, I went to the north side of hallway to stay away from the room. This worked fine, until I went back into the hallway and got hit by a flash from the room.

Now I when I try to reload a saved game (the only 2 I have are from this area, one about 6 rooms from the stairs and one 3 rooms down from the flashing one) the game loads, seems to start for about 30 seconds and crashes back to desk top.

Let me know what you think.

Firstly take this are a friendly advise. When creating a new thread you don't have to address it to a specific member, since many people can see it, even though i might be one of the few member that posts in this forum. :)

Now about the problem, i have heard before about the saves bug, but the problem is that this bug happened to the earlier versions of the game, with v1.4 patch this should not have happened and also the bug that messed up all the savegames did not happened only in the area that you mentioned. I just hope that the savegames have not been corrupted.

Here take a look at the Official PoR Technical Support. I believe this problem was addressed a few times there, maybe it will help you.

You're right about not posting to one person. I should have left it open.

Anyway, from the stuff I've read, it seems that I have to start all over. :(

The files must have been corupted by something to do with the flashing room. I've checked out a couple of other forums and that's what others have seen too.

Sorry it took so long to reply, been busy at work.

I don't believe this will solve the problem but it might worth it to try before (if) you start over. Try a clean install again, remove the game entirely but keep the saves and then reinstall and apply the patch. This will not probably work if the files are indeed corrupted however.

No that didn't work.

So I've started the game over, the good thing, now I can go though and avoid the mistakes I made the first time around.

Good luck then :)

I did restart the game too but only after a couple of hours in the main halls, it was then that v1.3 patch came out. And i finished the game with it without any more problems.

No such luck for me

I'm glad SOMEONE was able to finish the game after all the numerous patch installs and start-overs. Having installed any and all patches available, I started over again on THREE separate copies of the game I cheaply bought via online auctions (just for the sake of being thorough) and was STILL unable to finish the game without the corrupted saved file glitch. PoR had the potential to be a great, great game, but sloppy, negligent errors made it an utter headache and ultimately a huge waste of money and time. IMHO, UbiSoft bent us over. I was just happy to see that at least someone got to finish the game, but I won't ever attempt it again, nor will I purchase any software with the name UbiSoft printed on it.

I agree with you, UbiSoft does suck. I have several games by them and I'm weary of buying any more.

As you know they don't support XP for any of their games, well I bought most of the games while I still had ME. Well, they were no help at all, even though it's a OS they claim to support.

Now that I have XP, they are just the same, but I knew that.

The best advice is to join forums like this, here's where you'll find answers. UbiSoft sent me an email some 6 months after I contacted them with a problem and they suggested I join some forums. To late, I already did and the problem was solved some 6 months before.

The moral of the story; join forums for your games, they tend to be better support than the game makers "support".

Re: No such luck for me

A few others from these forums have finished the game as well. :)

True, and i also think that this game did more bad than good to UbiSoft, i have heard many people saying that they will no longer buy any product from this company.

I think UbiSoft did themselves in, not PoR.

As with my last post, they have a "read the faqs section or join a forum" attitude when it comes to support.

I sent them 42 emails, I waited almost a month after the first one then one every Thursday, asking for help with RIVEN and have never gotten a response.

I have 8 UbiSoft games that I have had problems with and no help from them.

I have always got help from the different forums and I give help when I can.

Game companies just want our money, not our problems.

FORUMS RULE.
