GWW sets the attacks per round to 10 no matter what combination you use. For a high level fighter dual-wielding, improved haste from the party's mage is better due to the duration of the spell.

And welcome to GB :)

it also ovverrides free action spell and ring...and item, though keldys family armor will accept white spells...

free action blocks both beneficial and harmful movement stuff, like stun and such, and i have seen the ring stop charm spells and chaos....

but even if you have the ring, a g whirlwind will set attacks at 10 for the next round....

now the firkam family armor, will allow beneficial spells like imp haste to work, but still stop stun, and hold spells...

so, all other things being equal(which they never are), from a powergaming perspective, at high level, 2h weapons are better!!!

(eagerly awaiting responses to this)

2 handed weapons are quiet deadly in TOB yes, but there are some powerful one handed weapons to, like some long swords, hammers, maces, flairs (flair of ages +5 in TOB), Katanas can be as deadly as a two handed weapon I hear which is why there are so little of them (Hindo's doom is good from making you immune to death spells).

here's a tip with items, you can always find some way to bend to the rules with the right classes to get a powerful warrior, and a thief can use anything with his use any item ability (except for more then 1 magical item at once and use two 2h weapons or one 2h and one 1h weapon at once).

overall though when I used to use parties of 6 (now I do just parties of 1) I found two handed weapons better (but Korgan was sure strong with his axes and hammers.)
Remember, being Evil in Baldur's Gate 2 is VERY fun...

I assume you mean that a two-handed weapon is better than dual wielding since the damage tends to be greater and the number of attacks under GW is the same. That is correct.

two handed is generally better for short, nasty firefights, where the object is to kill maybe 6 or seven quickly...is good while your whirlwinds last, but in places in games, like the underdark, where you have a lot to kill, dual is better duration,,,,,and while it is a pain, you can if you want put ring of free action back on after casting imp haste...
