BG1 Remake...

Post by Vehemence »

Anyone agree that they should seriously consider updating the original BG1 and TOTSC with BG2 style interface?

I would personally love to go running back through BG1 again with nice 800x600 res and double walking speed :)

And all the other BG2 trimmings too ;)

If anyone agrees... say so... :D

Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

The for user interface, well yes - would be nice to see a "gold"-pack or something (don't know if I would buy it though :D ) and graphics.

But not double walking speed - I liked the way you explored in BG1.

Just to clarify... this basically means walking as fast as the characters in BG2. Not sure if it is double the speed of BG1 movement, but all I know is it's better in BG2.

I certainly wouldn’t mind having Baldur's Gate upgraded with Shadows of Amn's walking speed but that can probably be accomplished with just a patch rather than a new CD. Hell, they’re even working on a small expansion for Heart of Winter that you supposedly will be able download.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

yeah, walking speed=movement rate. the new shadowkeeper lets you play with it in bgII so it must be a hex thing, easily done. i would personally love to see bgi with a bag of holding, and scroll, gem containers. as for res, that would be nice.. ;)

Aren't all the dialogs, items etc. from BG1 in the data files for BG2? I'm sure I saw entries for Khalid, Alora etc. with Infinity Explorer... it made me wonder if, by owning both games, it would be possible to "Frankenstein" them together.

The one thing I would definitely like to see in BG1 from BG2 is the pre-marking of map areas in the main city. Will it be done? I doubt it.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I have to disappoint you : BG2 have only small part of original BG1 dialogues - there are enough entries to ressurect playable NPCs from BG1 and some nonplayable, but party join/leave/interactions dialogues must be composed from existing sentences in game or entered into game by Infinity Add-on patcher.

However I will look into this if it is possible to make BG1 with BG2 interface. I suppose that it will not be very hard if you have both games.

Hey, wow, I was just shooting the breeze with that one... I didn't expect anyone to go to any trouble to make it happen. But my gratitude goes to you, if you do explore the possibility, and I'm sure it would be a popular hack if it were possible.

Cheers,

You can increase the speed of the game in the config program, there is a bar of frame updates/sec (Im not sure about this name)... This is weird but I change the resolution in BG2 and HoW to 640x480, I think its better this way...

Bump

After playing IWD2 (which uses the IE with 3e rules) I’m wishing for a remake of the BG series using 3rd edition D&D rules. It’s not going to happen, but it would be sweet to be able to go back through the original Baldur's Gate with the freedom of 3e (and the improved NPC reactions of BG2). Image

I agree. It would be cool if they were to stop the respawn of monsters.

The exploration of the game is fun, but it get tedious. I started playing BG2, and just picked up the original to see what its like. Exploring areas is a nice touch, but takes a long time, and I have a tendency to DIE when I get ambushed by 2 ankhegs....
Anyways, the refinements they made in BG2 would make BG1 that much better.
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Isn't that TotL??

BTW - I think that if someone could do a remake it would be great...especially since exploring areas were so tedious that I would stop playing simply because it was too boring at that moment to go on.

I'll always regret playing BG2 BEFORE BG1. I liked BG1 a lot but I'm sure I would've liked it even more, including the exploring, if I had played BG1 first.

I'm I the only one who actully liked going around exploring? When BG2 came out I was very dissapointed because there was no wild areas you could go exploring :( This is the reason why I play BG1 more than 2

I loved the exploring! Especially at night, with the sounds are really enhancing the tension, near the beginning of the game when you're still in trouble if you meet more than one wolf at the same time...

I remember when I was killed by a xar (the little blue guys) just after I met with the old man the first time. Man that was scary. The xar was soo powerful that I had to avoid it. Ahhh those wee the days
