Scrolls, Traps, and Liches... Oh my!

Post by JSPCHIEF »

Ok...I'm fighting kangaxx and am having a bit of trouble. I only have one scroll of magic prot., so I need to know where to get some more (3 or more would be best). Also, I've tried the trap cheese, but my crappy Swashbuckler fails at setting traps about 99.9% of the time. Is there something that I'm doing wrong with traps? By the way I should mention that I'm playing the Sola Mod so the demi is much tougher than before. My last attempt had everyone dead or imprisoned except me ( 1 scroll as mentioned before) I used the Ring of Ram (only 13 damage) the horn of blasting (lousy two) and proceeded to swing away with my shortsword of the mask and usuno's blade. I actually left the room for about an hour with the two going at it and Kangaxx still had full hit points when I got back (apparently he regenerates rather nicely) He had cast about 45 Mordy's sword (guess they don't run out) and was still casting when my scroll finally wore out (gulp). Any help on where to find more Prot. scrolls would be appreciated, as well as tips on traps.

there are only two in the game, you should be using helm of vilator to cast them on all party members....

both are sold by ribaud, in the adventure mart, unless you used one to upgrade something in the item upgrade mod...

oh you did....

use your one scroll, via helm on one character, and use prot from undead on others....you need at least one char protected from magic or spell immunity abby to keep from getting unkillable kangy bug....

cheesy ways to kill kangy...

stick ring of ram into gem bag for instant recharge... use deathspell on swords...cast multiple inc clouds into spawn area and use prot from energy and elements to protect the person who will trigger his spawn...use spike traps to kill first form and use ring to push him into another group of spike traps...

use helm to save the scrolls, get keldy and holy avenger, and use prot from magic on him, via helm, and use prot from undead on rest...

say, how did you defeat the guardians??? use the lure cheese???

they are actually much tougher...

kangy skull form is completely vulnerable to dragon breath, two will kill him...
They call me Darth...

defeating guardians

Actually, I think I got lucky on the guardians. After the first time when I waltzed in there, put up a good fight and then had a midget with a bada$$ (vorpal?) sword start lopping heads off, I tried again and cast time stop the minute I walked in the door. Cast three Abi Dazims and it actually killed the liches! Then I let my fighters take on the two human baddies that were left. By the way....considering the damage that dwarf (or gnome maybe?) did with that sword, why was there no weapon when I searched his rotting corpse. I half expected to find Excalibur in his bone pile. Also any idea why my Swash has failed setting every trap he's ever attempted? Very Frustrating!!

Unfortunately, in my previous "HLAs" thread, I jumped the gun and got imp. alacrity instead of dragon breath (Doh!). Wish I would've waited for a few more replies in there.

About the sword... I'm just trying to guess... Sometimes Wes likes to make his creature's items "undroppable" so that you can't get them :(

About traps... don't know... how much % do you have in "setting traps" by now? If you have 100% you should never fail...
Also, you can't set traps with hostiles in sight...

And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

This can't be

OMG tell me this isn't true. Went to check my numbers on set traps in the Record and noticed my thieving stats as such.

open locks=170
find traps=185
pick pockets=160
move silently=180
hide in shadows=15
detect illusions=0
set traps=5

All this time whenever I lvl up the screen only shows the first four abilities (hence the huge numbers) and I must have never scrolled down to give points to the other 3. Now it is rather evident why I haven't had any luck setting traps.

This has got to be the biggest DOH! of BG history. The worst part is I've played a thief before, and I couldn't believe how fast my thieving skills were climbing this time. I assumed that the Swash just got better points or something.

I'm very proud of my lvl 24 Swash that can't even set a mouse trap! GRRRR!!!

It's in fact an exact copy of the Silver Sword you assemble from the parts dropped by the Githanki. It was dropable some Solaufein versions ago, but was made undroppable because being able to get a vorpal sword in chapter 2 was toooooooo much

*feeling much ashamed he raises his hand saying* I'm one of them. Realized in the end of the game (SOA) that there was a scroller in there. No wonder I always died when setting traps  :D

Shadowkeep

I don't know if I still have Shadowkeep, could someone plz give link (lazy ;) ). That's actually a great idea, I can repair the damage done by my stupidity without feeling guilty. Do I need to enable cheats to use SK? New hard drive with everything reinstalled and I don't remeber what I have and what I need to do. Can you believe I got all the way to lvl 24 b4 questioning this?

Shadow keeper

(hope the link is still valid... it's from the sticky thread)

No need to enable nothing. That's for the in-game cheats. SK is not in -game... it's outside :p

If you cast the scroll of magic protection WHILE he casts Imprisonment, he will continue to attack you instead of your party members. The downside to this is that you have to fight him without the scroll (which should be easy since he is just a normal lich until he becomes the skull thing).

I am also glad about this post as I didn't notice the scroll bar either. I suppose it's because, being used to BGI we didn't expect any changes. Fortunately I haven't got too far in this game as I keep wondering. "I wonder what happens if I do this instead?" with the result that I spend a long time on the early parts.
