Length of NWN

Post by 1-800-DOCTORB »

Hi, I'm seriously thinking of picking NWN up. I've heard from different sources that the single player campaign is 80 hrs long, and I've also heard it's 60 hrs long. Out of curiousity, which is more correct and is it possible for a player who tries to do everything possible to stretch out the game time even more to say 100 hrs? Although I have played Baldur's Gate 2, I never really gave much thought as to how many hours I spent playing it, but I tried to do everything possible and the game time I'm sure was pretty long. Is NWN's length anywhere near comparable to BG2 or even BG1 for that matter?

I would say it depends much of your experience with such games.

For me 40-60 hours was proberly more precise for my first trip to it, but have realised I have missed some side quests (not many - but some)

Others I know have spend much more time then me in the game on their first time through.

It'll soak up a good amount of your time. I'd say it's divided like this:
  • 40% Killing things
  • 20% Walking around
  • 10% Inventory management
  • 10% Opening containers
  • 5% Conversation
  • 5% Puzzles
  • 5% Casting buff spells (depending on your class)
  • 5% Resting and healing

The game takes far longer than it really should. Every little cave or sewer has 3 or 4 levels, each with 20 rooms and everything is locked and/or trapped. t-e-d-i-o-u-s.

The chests, barrels and crates are full of useless crap (it's sure fun to spend time and energy to kill a tough critter and get a piece of flourspar) but it's the only way to accumulate money, so you have to warp back to the temple right in the middle of doing an area just to unload all of the junk, which breaks any sense of continuity.

You spend so long in each area that you literally lose track of why you're there (why am I collecting ears? who wanted them? where do I go to give them to him?) and maintaining any sense of where you are in the overall game is virtually impossible.

(this concludes my latest vent)
