I have my characters on standard attack which is what I am used to from all the other Infinity engine games. The problem is that the characters try to be smarter than I want them to be. They keep switching between range weapons and meele weapons depending on the distance to the nearest enemy. Right now I'm at work, so I don't have the game or the script names in front of me, but I remember that there was a script that was supposed to do something like this. It says that the characters will change between range and meele weapons. That's not the one I have selected. I have the one that is almost word for word the same as the standard attack in BG2. It is very frustrating because my Paladin is a lot more powerful with her sword than with her bow, and if I don't pay attention to her, she keeps switching to a bow instead of running up to the enemies and hacking the crap out of them. The only way to make sure she doesn't, is to take the bow out of her quick weapons, but then when I do need it, it is frustrating to have to open her inventory each time. It is nice that when my Sorcerer gets attacked at close range she switches from a bow to a sword and shield, but I want my cake and I want to eat it too. Any advice? Has anyone else experienced this?

IMHO scripts are a waste of time. I find the game much more enjoyable when I make the tactical decisions. That way you don't have to worry about which weapon your guy is going to use at what time. My advice to fix this problem is to disable the scripts. The pause key and a little ingenuity is all you need, thats where the IE has its charms.
The "B" is for bargain
When I fight the big battles and need to single out magic users or bosses, yea, I select who I want to attack and with what, but a lot of IWD2 and all the games are just walking into a flock of goblins and laying waste. Then I could care less in what order I attack the enemy and selecting each goblin as carnage bounces around the screen is annoying.

But if you are fighting weak enemies who cares how your fighters deal with them as long as they kill them and your weak char. don't get swarmed?

Well, it could be a problem. For example if you're low on arrows and you want to save them or whatever.
Besides, it's annoying when your chars don't do what you want them to do.
The nice thing about BG and IWD is that you can put a lot of subtle - sometimes not so subtle - strategy into the fights.

Scripts can be fun.......
I like to use scripts for my supporting characters and I just directly control my lead character.
That gives things a bit more of a feel that you are leading a group of characters who to some degree do their own thing, as opposed to just totally dominating every single move of 6 characters.
