fallen paladin

Post by Coot »

I'm thinking of taking, maybe soloing, a paladin through the series. The concept of a fallen paladin intrigues me. I did a search on the forums and I got a few questions about those.
What exactly do you lose when your rep goes under 6? Your spells, certainly, but how about saves?
What happens when you lvl up? I suppose you gain HP and your THAC0 improves, but how about highlevel abilities when you reach ToB? BTW, I exported my fallen paladin to ToB, but he only got lvl 16, not high enough to get any hla right of the bat.
A couple of funny things happened though while I imported the character in ToB... first, I had to reroll for the stats, while your stats should be the ones you had in BG1. This also means you'll lose the effects of all the tomes you can find in BG1.
I could choose a paladinkit but the abilities weren't there, even the 'passive' ones like resistance to fire.
I could put the priest spells in my spellbook, only I couldn't access them. The 'spellbutton' remainded dark.
The strangest thing, however, was the fact that I had all my equipment from BG1 on me, like the ankheg-armor, the letter from the first assassin, etc.

I guess there aren't any advantages to playing a fallen paladin ( you'll never get to grandmastery, for instance, no spells, no kit-related bonuses) but I like the idea from a roleplaying perspective.
Has ANYONE ever played a gone-bad-paladin for an extended amount of time?

A fallen paladin is turned into a fighter of equivalent level. If you really want to solo as a dark paladin, I suggest downloading The Darkest Day modification for SoA. It contains 75 new kits, one of which is an accurate fallen paladin with withering touch and all his saves intact due to his devotion to a dark god.

Soloing a fallen paladin is just like soloing a fighter, but you get access to a pretty decent sword near the end of SoA.

Will a fallen paladin be able to use some of the specific paladinitems? Carsomyr comes to mind.

Carysomar is useable only be the pure of heart and intention, the greatest holy warriors. Since anti paladins/fallen paladins are the opposite of all that is good and holy, No, they can't :)

They can take the Unholy Reaver from the Githyanki you fight later on, its a 2 hander +5 if I recall, 1d12 damage. Not as good, but pretty good.

Ah, well. There really isn't a reason to make your pc a fallen paladin, is there? You wouldn't even get the stronghold, crappy as it is.

Should be noted however, the TDD only runs with BG 2 SoA.

If your fallen you actually get the fighter stronghold.

There is, but you also have to have Tales of the Sword Coast.
