Battle squares at Aurelite Palace. Am I stupid ?

Post by Ambiorix »

I'm in the the icy palace of Auril doing the battle square with the golem. I've figured out you have to fight five battles for each of the ten levels. Only: which battles ? I'm at level 2 and I'm scoring victories but I'm not advancing. I have to take 4 squares in a "different way" ? What's a different way ? What am I missing. I'm taking my four squares and am granted a victory each time, but I'm not advancing. What's the trick ?

First you said
I've figured out you have to fight five battles for each of the ten levels
Then you said
I have to take 4 squares in a "different way" ?
I do not understand this this you said...........But I will try to explain how to win a level.................

You have to win the level in five different ways...........
the crosses shows where to win the battles
(there are many combinations for each way)
(just ignore my punctuations............as if they were not there)

Here are some examples of the first way
xoo.........xoo............xxx
xoo...or...oxo....or....ooo.......first one is easy.....just three in a row
xoo.........oox............ooo

the second way of winning is to win with an extra cross
.....................................ooo.................................xoo.........ooo
first....you can do this...xoo......then you finish....xoo...or...xoo
.....................................xox..................................xox.........xxx

third way is three in a row with two extra crosses
..........ooo................xoo
first....xox.....then....xox
..........xox................xox

the fourth way is with three extra crosses
..........oxx..................xxx
first....xox.......then....xox
..........xoo..................xoo

then the fifth way..........with four extra crosses
.........oxx...........................xxx
first...xox......then finally....xox
.........xxo...........................xxo

There are a many combinations.......I hope you got the picture.......
make three in a row with......0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 extra crosses

I just finished the whole test. Gets boring after a while but I needed the stuff you get. Is worth about 200.000 gold at any store I estimate.

Anyway, an odd thing happened. Two types of monsters (Cornugons and Greater Fyers), that have teleport ability, more often than not stopped fighting the character doing the test and appeared in the small chamber where the rest of the party was. This makes the test actually easier but is it a bug ?

Good XP?

Is the XP bonus from completing it worthwhile?
I just tried a couple of levels and left because it was wasting potions, etc.
Also one of the other people in the temple said it was a waste of time. (The last sister)

Happened to me, too. I think it's a bug. Also, once my fighting character died, and the game failed to recognize her death. The attacking monster just walked around for a minute or so, at a loss.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Brats, I didn't keep track of it, but I have the impression the XP is not really that much. Not enough to go through the whole bother anyway. If you want fun fights and some extra XP, sleep with your party in dangerous places.

I did it for the equipment. For instance, one of the prices is some sort of throwing darts which gave me almost 50.000 at the stores.
