Night owls (spam lite)

Post by fable »

I admit it. I've always been a night owl. I enjoy dusk, I love the comparative quiet at night, the sky lit up, away from civilized lights. I enjoy the dawn, too, but only if I've been up a good while to before.

I like to read, write, and listen to music late at night. I mellow out. I enjoy net surfing then, and coming up here, though it seems that most of you are 9-to-5ers. :D

In any case, which are you? What are your waking patterns like? Do you enjoy the night, and if so, why?

When I was younger, I used to love the morning. I really enjoyed getting up at 3 am and wandering the neighborhood before anyone else was up (I had a paper route ;) ). I enjoyed the cold mornings when the snot would freeze on the backs of my gloves or the warm mornings when I could hear the first birds start to sing. I liked observing the movements of the dogs as they did their own patrol, always getting back to their own yards before their humans even knew they were out.

Getting up early to work on a field project is also quite fun, though you can't dig archaeological sites in the dark, so its not as nice as when I could be the first one to wake up in the town. I don't do so much fieldwork these days. :(

But now, my kid's strange sleeping habits has severely limited the time that I can sleep, so I don't get my way anymore. I have to sleep whenever they'll let me.... :D
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

I love the night. The day is too bright, makes my eyes hurt :D . Everyone in my house is asleep, so i can finally get some peace and quiet  . I ussually keep a normal schedule durring the week, (school is annoying :p ) and flip it all around durring the weekends.

I like to write stories and stuff at night, listen to music, visit SYM ;) . Sometimes I'll go out for walks, although now its a little chilly out, and the police like to hassle me about being out after curfew  . I like to see the city at night, and just walk out in the middle of the roads and lay in them looking up at the stars. I think civilization looks a lot better at night, with the streetlamps on and no one around.

I have always been a night person. The day is the time I devote to doing the Things I Must - but the night is where my senses come alive, so it seems. My greatest creative and intellectual output occurs after the sun sets.

The night is also where, traditionally, most of my writing takes place.

The night.........yes, I do love the night. Especially when i comes to dawn. If you live in overcrowded bustling metropolitan city like I do there's nothing like night time. It gives me peace and quiet. The sounds of cricket like a symphony. ANd yes there's still crickets around my house :) All the noise seems disappear during night time, which is why it kinda like a sanctuary for solitute for me. ;)

Don´t think I am a night person... I always get damn tired when I stay up really late, but I like the quietness of it.

@Gwally; Yeah, wish I had a dog just so I could take it for a walk in the cold morns. :)

BTW, I´d really like to see weasel´s post in this thread! :D

Well....i was a weird teenager, normally in bed at 11 pm. But if i had friends over or just felt like it i could pull 48 hours without sleep. I can still do it, but 1 am is not my cut off time due to Real life commitments.

I have been an early worm, always liked sleeping till late. 9 am is early for me. Do i like the night? Yes. But i like absolute darkness...just me and whatever i am doing. I sleep in absolute darkness the whole place is closed off, and the window blinds covering the light from the street.

I too, am a night owl...

...started way back during college days when I'm more focused finishing off term papers during those unholy hours.

I loved the coldness and serenity of the night. I didn't mind the crickets though I would tune in to a jazz station over the radio.

My present work doesn't allow me to enjoy the night like I used to. But now, since it's the term break, I'd sometimes walk over the middle of the bridge crossing the Chao Phraya River.

From 11pm to 3am, there is not much traffic passing by so the bridge is relatively quiet. There would be some locals there too with their fishing rods and catch some river fish.

I would bring my discman and a six pack. I would sit at the edge of the bridge and enjoy the wind, listen to my music while taking some swigs.

Nice time to contemplate on things without having to be too sentimental or mushy. But yes, I do this to beat the loneliness that would come with the coldness of the night.

I like it when it's raining outside and it's night. I just stare outside, listening to the rain. It feels like your mind is being cleansed. :)

I'm largely a night person. My normal bedtime is 1/2 am and I get up at 8 am (I'm 17 and still in highschool). But when I can I stay up till 4 am and don't wake up till 1/2 pm. I love the night, except for poor television (ugh the only thing we get after 1 am is tellsell) I think it's great. It's quiet and my inspiration for drawing starts flaring when I'm delusional from sleep deprivation :D .

I am mostly a night owl. I love seeing the rain at night, when its really pouring. I love the silence and peace of night time. I love the smell of night air when you're outside, away from a city. I love seeing the stars. I love it when it snows outside, the white against the black sky. I love the bite of cool air.

I love the night. :)

I am indeed a night owl...I have been a chronic insomniac all of my life and do not even feel my best untill after 5 or 6 in the evening. I love the night when everyone else is asleep and I have the house/streets to myself. I usually sleep from about 3:30 or 4:00 am untill around 9:00 am. The night seems to awaken the artist/writer/musician in me. It is also when I am most interactive with others. I loved working in the trauma unit because of this. The action hits when my senses are keenest, and my energy is at its peak. I do not like the bright of day. It hurts my eyes. The hustle of the crouds and traffic annoy me. And I absolutely lothe daytime TV (not that I like TV that much anytime...but the late late movies are sometimes cool :D )

I am mostly a night person I guess. I don't know why, I just always loved being out at night. Things are a lot quieter, and it just seems to sooth me. I can sit on my front porch and just listen to the river flowing by, something you can't really hear during the day. Things just seem more noticable and alive to me at night. You get rid of a lot of the artificial noises and can hear a lot more of the natural sounds. It just seems kinda peaceful to me

We ought to think about forming a Night Owls' Society, you know, and cluster up here. Just a thought. :D

Great idea, fable...

...but one question though --- would the difference in time zone matter?

Im an afternoon person. I hate doing anything at night besides spending time online or watching tv or playing games. I drive during the day, I hate night driving. I try to do work mid-day, but I usually put it off to night.

I cannot wake up beyond 11:00 or else I get a headache. So I tend to like to wake up circa 9:30, though that doesnt happen all the time. I like the day, but I dont like the sun. I dont like the night, but I do enjoy a dark essence. Makes sence, eh? :D Thats why I love overcast days...

While I do stay up late often, its usually just so I can spend time alone, as my parents also love to stay up late and hang around the house all day. I usually like to reflect the day while still being awake, so I usually stay up for that. Also a lot of people online stay up late, so I just follow suit.

Many of us also post during the day. I think it's a way of forgetting the sun is up above. ;)

Back sunlight. Back!

I, too, am a night owl. The only time I like to see the sunrise is if I haven't been to bed yet. Fortunately, I get to set my own work hours.

It seems every night I could go to bed around 11pm but if I don't I hit a strong second wind enough to keep me up for hours. So I usually stay up real late and roll out of bed around 8 or 9 am every day. The thing is, if I did go to bed at 11pm, I'd still sleep until 9am. Perhaps that makes me more of a morning hater than a night owl.

But still, it's just fun to be up real late when most of your surroundings have closed or gone to sleep. Maybe that's why I prefer cats over dogs. My cats are always rearing to raise hell around midnight or later every night.

It's also the only time of day to get some good quality gaming in. You know, pour a large mug of ale, fire up bg2, and play by candlelight. Everything is quiet and serene and you know you'll be undisturbed. Well, I know I'll be undisturbed because of those two clay golems I have guarding my study.
Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.
