Posting Titles

Post by thaGforce »

Could we have more titles? I know that there is a possibility of people spamming more to get to the next title, and if that's why you aren't doing it, that's answer enough. But if you just haven't thought about it, could you? :)

Isn't it all about the spam anyway? :p

I quite like the idea of choosing your own title :)

The problem of course is that Buck is less involved than he is...but I think that titles would be great for members who have done anything especially worthwhile - @Buck, would it be possible to devolve the duty of handing out custom titles to an influential mod, who is on the ground more?

I think that complete free reign over your title would be useless - The only reason why a custom title would be fun is because everyone else would be called 'Member' and you'd be called 'Bad Boy Mofo'...

Only in exceptional circumstances, but I say Yay for Custom Titles...

And the problem with this is...? :p

Seriously, I definitely think that there should be some change - although 50 people going around with "Spammer Extraordinaire" is a problem. frogus' idea is a good one - give a mod the power to change people's titles if they win things, or do something notable. Even a "Birthday Boy/Girl" on their birthday would be a nice touch... ;)

Being the young guy that thinks old, Im against custom titles. I mean its just another thing to moderate and look out for. Something that is unnecessary that still needs to be policed because someone might right obsceneties and what not. Keep it simple and uniform, I think.

I meant a set group of titles. Like the Mods/Buck/Gwendri would come up with a small list. And the posters could look forward to reaching them. :)

Like at 50 posts then 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000.

And special ones at funny numbers like 69 *O YA*, Battle of 1812, etc.

I see no reason for "more/sepcial" titles.
They are not the reason why I post, neither is my post count.

I think the problem with titles related to post count is that it pushes some people to spam rampantly. Even in SYM, there are certain things that are frowned on, but I believe to tie a title to a post count is just asking for a lot of people to drown threads with postes even more irelevant than I normally make :p

I've seen it happen on other boards, and I would hate to see it happen here. Just make up you own and put it in your sig. :D I did

As far as my thoughts on posting personally, if you look around, most of the people who have high post counts (Sleep, fable, and yes, even Weasel ;) ) have been around for a long time and in some ways, they already have a title of sorts as elder statesmen for the board. It's not a title, but more a respect from members about their helpfulness and willingness to welcome new posters.

I guess I am just worried about seeing counting posts and one word posts simply for the number

@BS and Xandax You guys are absolutely correct. I mean Id hate seeing an overwhelming lack of substance in posts compared to posts that have meaning. And those who post just for post counts would probably be not that fun to hang around with in the forums, and it would make this place lack the substance it has right now-ie make posts meaningless, thereby make this place not as much fun. I know my post count skyrocketed, and I hope no one thinks its because I only want to raise my post count, but to be perfectly honest, I really dont care about my post count-those tavern threads are bloody addicting! :D  Theres no need to have a catalyst to make people care solely about post counts, and that catalyst might be the titles.

I was gonna post something exactly like this, but I didn't know how to say it. There you go :)
