In the drider lair there is an alchemy lab. A transmuter specialized mage with a high alchemy skill is capable of creating a special potion there. It is not the one necessary for the plot to advance, but is listed as being very dangerous to create and imbibe. It is supposed to make the mage more powerful.
My transmuter created it and drank it, but I didn't see any effects (although the description of drinking it sounded alot like tequila). My stats didnt change, no extra spells or resistances, etc...
Anybody know what it does? I've tried searching all the walkthroughs, but nobody else seems to have been dumb enough to have a transmuter as a character.

Did you find the previous alchemist's notes? IIRC, the notes described how to use the other potion. Instead of having your transmuter drink it, try giving it to the Enhanced Flesh Golem (You didn't kill him, did you? He's the only one that won't attack you unless he is individually provoked.). From that point I belive the game gives further instruction, but if it doesn't, just jolt the golem with some sort of electricity, like the lighting bolt spell. Note: The golem will assume that whomever "jolted" him is his master, and therefore follow and protect that character, so plan ahead! (read: don't use your scout like I did.
D'oh!).
My 2 cents:
This has got to be one of the coolest things you can do in the game.
