losing items when importing chars into a new game explained

Post by Lucian »

when you start a fresh game you will hear your char cry out, then the darkness disappears as irenicus walks up...but..i discovered that if youre quick, you can pause the game BEFORE he cries out, then you can access your char and he will have ALL his items, so you can drop them all on the ground, so you can pick them up when the start scene is over..the only thing that migth give problems, is the familiars..you dont have time to release it before he cries out..and you lose all your stuff

Yeah! Finally that's the way to get 'Balduran's Cloak' into the game! (most other things from BG1 are available in BG2 or worthless because surpassed in performance)
Thanks Lucian!

very helpful, like many of your postings
very tricky, like many of your postings

yeah, lost my lovely time stops, abi-dalzim's and simulacrums (simulacra?), just be sure if you planned to reimport to put the most valuable ones direct in backpack-slots...
anyway got all of them still in my spellbook...do you think it's exaggerated to gate in some pit fiend to battle the 5 goblins in Irenicus' first prison level?

Lucian i just started a new game with my char from BG1.I have all of Drizzt's equipment from BG1 ,do you think this will cause a problem .What i mean is if i don't fight Drizzt in BG2 will Malcor Harpell still show up wanting Drizzt equipment back.

I don't think this will cause a problem since Malchor Harpell's appearance should be event-triggered, that you kill him right here (BG)
BUT I'm not really sure since I was nice to him but if you attacked him in BG1 there's no chance to go by in BG2

What do you mean?(there's no chance to go by in BG2)?? Do you mean there is no way to go around Drizzt. This i know. What i'm talking about is Lucian (if i remember right) has already had to fight Malchor Harpell and he cannot be beat.So i don't want to get to that point in the game and have to give up something i didn't take from Drizzt in BG2 but did take in BG1.

I never experienced this but I thought that he will attack you in any case in BG2 if you killed him in BG1 (which you must have). no matter if you still have his equipment or not. So take his stuff here in BG2 and M.H. will kick your royal butt. leave it and everything will be fine.
[sorry for being so clumsy at that]

If you killed Drizzt in BG1 you can talk your way out of fighting him in BG2.You have to promise to be a good boy/girl,this way he will show up to help you .If you tell Drizzt to stick it up his a## ,then the problem with M.H begins ,From what i understand no weapons or spells work on him (M.H).What i am wondering is what event trigger causes M.H to show up,Killing Drizzt or having his equipment?

I´d think it is triggered by killing Drizzt...and then having his weapons......Malchor sure doesn´t show up as far as I´ve played.......so if you leave Drizzt alone (let him live..or whatever) it should work out fine.....
