Spoilers Imp. Mae Var fight

Post by Obsidian »

Has anyone played through this? It's included in TDD mods I have. Basically, M V is now a fighter mage (I think from his spellcasting at least) and he has another mage, 2 clerics and dozens of assasins who keep backstabbing.

The obvious answer is to get Keldorn and have him use true sight.
However, my party is evil ,lead by a Chaotic Evil Anti Paladin, so for roleplaying purposes, it just doesn't work.
In my party I have
My PC (bassically Paladin with some crazy evil abilities)
Vicionia
Korgan
Adarios (assasin)
Edwin
Kagain (Troll Slayer)

Any ideas on how to beat them? My parties pretty melee orientated, but the assasins are whooping me.
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Improved MaeVar is part of Solaufein, not TDD.

My strategy involved two mages. You can probably get by without them, but it's harder.

- Buff BEFORE you go down the stairs. Including True Sight will be a good idea.

- Once down there, have Viconia cast a Holy Smite or two down the hallway. Have Edwin cast Chaos, then Cloudkill, then other ranged spells. There IS a prisoner in the cells, so you'll need to angle the cloudkill carefully... although you're playing as an evil party so I don't see why you'd care.

- The Chaos should disrupt some of their guys. MaeVar in particular is usually a sucker for it in my games, and the smites and cloudkill and anything else you can pop off will be a big help. Unfortunately, with just two casters you'll have a hard time putting up a wall of summons, but with items the rest of the guys should be able to manage something. You can then pick off the bad guys as they come down the corridor.

MaeVar is a sucker for Chaos in my experience.

An easy way to avoid being backstabbed by MaeVar's assasins is to use Adario for stealing their potions of Invisibility. But this should be done during one of your visits to MaeVar, and before you fight him.

By the way, I think you are in the wrong forum. (Doesn't Improved MaeVar belong to Shadows of Amn plot?)

Cheers

the big issue is the prisoner in the cage, right?? use edwin under mislead to talk to him, and release him, most cre scripts will ignore mislead, and then use farsight to bombard with inc clouds....

another fun tactic is to buy the harp of pandemonium from ribaud, and have your assassin with use any item use it to push enemies who emerge from a inc cloud back into it...giggle....
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

..."use Adario"?
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

Obsidian mentioned Adario being a member of his party, didn't he?

Yes, but I think he (as am I for that matter) is confused about just how that will help. I haven't had time to get playing again, but it seems I have to kill one assasin, get his potions, then assasinate them as they backstab my chars.

I usually pickpocket the assasins' of their portions of Invisibility during one of my visits to MaeVar's basement, but before the last visit and the fight that follows.

If you steal their portions, no one would be able to backstab your characters when fight-time comes.

Hmm, I suppose that makes sense. I just got some wands and fired cloudkill and fireball with edwin, and ran back upstairs, then repeated. Then hacked away.... worked pretty well.

Mae ver and his gang is one hella bugger if ure low level.
they got some sort of pathfinding so they follow you even if ure invisible.
You could try to lay some traps before you fight em another idea is use fire-elems the assains swords are only +1 so they wont be able to scratch it if u can get em to follow you with their pathfinding in the right cage and shut it u can kill em with a death fog or a similiary stationiary spell.

I think in my game, I used SEVERAL true sights to avoid backstabs. :)
