Hello.
I have a problem with Baldur's Gate 2 and was wondering if anyone could help me.
I own BG 2 for quite some time and have played it often. But recently I have upgraded my pc and after this upgrade, I am experiencing problems.
Strangly, after installing TOB I can't play SOA, better said I can't save. No autosave, no save at all.
It simply kicks me back to desktop.
Playing TOB functions normally. No save problem.
Installing just SOA solves the problem. Saves like a dream.
Have you ever heard of this or could you point me anywhere where I could get help.
I have installed the respective patches, but nothing.
I have updated all drivers and am simply at a loss...
To be honest, the upgrade was probably the worst thing I have ever done. The errors are massing and I have spend more time at the pc shop than at home.
My Hardware
Athlon 2000 (1,66 gigaherz)
Spacewalker Mainboard AK 31
GeForce 3
40 Gigs Harddrive
256 Ram
Could this be a hardware problem or does it have to do with the game?
Thank you for your time
Andreas
Strange Problem with BG2
Windows 98
and I applied the ToB European Patch (I have the german version of the game) 26498 after full installation of the game (that's the newest patch, I believe, and it worked before).
I haven't changed anything on the game. I was able to play it before on my old pc (I'm still using some of the old savegames), but ever since I upgraded it, the game dumps me on saving, but only when playing SOA with TOB installed.
It's as if BG2 can't find the path for save games for the SOA saga after TOB is installed.
I mean I can play the game, but I would really like to have the ToB features in SoA again.
What I haven't tried is installing SoA, patch it and then install ToB, patch it. I was to tired of deleting and reinstalling the game.

Are you trying to load the new installation from the old savegames, it might be that the savegames are on a differently patched version. Can you start a new game or does it crash regardless, it might be that there is a corruption with the save game.Originally posted by Andreas

Also delete all the data in the cache folder.
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

It crashes even on a new game. To be exact it crashes when trying to save. After starting with a new character, the last thing I see is the autosave symbol, then I'm back at the desktop.
I don't believe that it has anything to do with the old savegames. I played these before again, and never had these troubles, and currently, I don't have any old savegames installed.

This may sound like an INCREDIBLY stupid suggestion, but have you checked your keyboard mapping to make sure that key you actually press does what you want it to do?

Well, that's definitely NOT a stupid question, but I'm sorry to say that I checked that already, and it works like a charm. Nothing wrong.
The game breaks of on the savegame screen. The golden circle is about onethird complete and it kicks me out.
For clarification:
The game works. I can play, fight, interact, but as soon as it tries to save, bang, I'm back at windows.
I'll try deleting everything in the cache and get back to you. Maybe there is a simple solution to it.
Take care everyone
