Tech. Problem

Post by The Z »

For some odd reason (this has never happened before), BG just shuts off and returns to my desktop at random places during gameplay. I've got ToTSC, patched with the latest one, the DirectX 8 patch, and DSotSC version 1.03B installed running on Windows 98...anyone have any clue why it's doing this???

I think it might be DirectX8

I think that DirectX8 might be causing your problems. BG wasn't meant to be run with DX8, and sometimes that causes errors. It did with me at least, on Arcanum and BG too I think.

Do you have any hardware issues that you are aware of? The reason I ask is that when this happened to me, the cooler was dying and my processor was overheating...

Um....no hardware issues that I know of, and BG2/IWD/Torment run fine....I suppose I could keep going the same way and just quicksave every 5 minutes, but it's rather annoying when you just get into a city and the game flares out...

Try reinstalling, but without DTOTSC.
Don't think you know all the answers.

Have you tried clearing out the cache/data folder in your BG1 directory? :)
