Elves, Gnomes, Trolls, Dwarves, and probably many more were taken from some legend or another. But I had always considered trolls to be plumper... more like Dwarves from the stories I had heard. Anyone know the story about the 3 sheep who wanted to cross the bridge to get to the greener grass (grass is always greener on the other side =) and their was a troll under the bridge. Dwarves I believe were Nordic, Elves were an english thing along with trolls.
