I am new when it comes to this type of game, and I am curious about what a number after a weapon means (for example, dagger+2). From what I noticed, it looked like it added 2 points of damage and a 2 bonus to THACO, but is this what it means? The Staff of the Magi says +1 to damage, and +1 to THACO, but says "strikes as a +5 weapon." What does that mean? And what does it mean when it says the monk's fists are considered +1 to +3 weapons? Thanks to anyone who answers this, it will clear things up a bit.
BTW, has anyone ever used a monk with Keldorn's Firecam Full Plate equiped? If so, how much does it drop the monks AC. I am thinking about starting a monk.
Question about weapons (and monks)
Normally IIRC then if a weapon is +2 (ei. dagger +2) it adds 2 points to damage, a bonus of 2 to your THAC0 and ca hit creatures that can be hit by normal, +1 and +2 weapons.
With the Staff of Magi, when it says +1 weapon it gives +1 in damage and 1 in bonus to your THAC0, but when it says it strike as a +5 weapon, IIRC then it can hit monster uptil +5 (hittable by normal, +1 - +5 weapons)
(Somebody correct me if I'm wrong

Enchanted weapons have several "+" values attached to them. These values are the enchantment level, THACO, and damage bonus.
Enchantment level: Checked by the game in encounters with certain creatures. You won't be able to damage creatures with a +1 weapon when they require a +2 or better to hit.
THACO: The bonus to hit when you equip this weapon. This is often, but not always, the same as the enchantment level.
Damage bonus: This is the extra damage the weapon will always do in addition to the damage roll.

There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...
What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Also some weapons , even though they are +2 to thaco do additional damage ie Namarra +2 thaco +4 damage. Just because something is + whatever dosent mean thats the damage it does. However the identify spell will show the items damage and thaco bonus. (note also that hammer +1, +4 vs giant kin is enchanted to hit at +4 so is Flametongue, so they can hit even the demilich)
