data2.cab File for Throne of Bhaal is Corrupted
As you read in the title, my data2.cab file for Throne of Bhaal is in fact corrupted, and can not be read, moved or edited in any way (an error message pops up). I've already written to Interplay, but in the meantime does anyone know where I could possibly get the 500 meg file online, or even better how to fix it?

You mean that every time you reinstall the game, it says that same file is corrupted? Or are you saying that when you uninstall, that file is left behind, and you can't get rid of it?
A little more information would be helpful, at this point.

Heh, Sorry.
Anyway I tried to install ToB (full and minimun) and it keeps asking for specific data.cab files in an ascending order (much like the in famous "insert disk 5" error). When I tried to copy all of the files from the disc onto my hard drive, the data2.cab file would not copy, and it said it couldn't be read. I know that ToB has in the past run on my computer, and the disc is has not been scratched/broken/in sibling's room/etc. I read a thread on the Interplay forums, but the person did not day how he/she solved the problem if at all.
I don't know if disabling read-ahead would work.

Okay, try this:
First, move your savegame directory.
Then, reboot. Don't run BG2 after rebooting.
Then, uninstall.
Reboot again.
If you have Regedit or another registry editor program, bring it up, and do a find on all mentions of Baldur's Gate. Delete 'em. (I'm assuming you only have BG2 installed.
Reboot once more.
Now, try reinstalling BG2.

If no one replies in a few hours here, I'll move this thread to our Tech Support category. Maybe that will draw more answers--at least, the right sort of answers.

Once the Data2.cab is gone, it is gone. Interplay will replace the disk for the cost of postage This happened to both my sister and I, only it was a file on disk 1 with her, and one on disk 2 with me. We were able to swap around to get an install.

That seems to answer the question pretty definitively. Sorry we couldn't offer something more positive, @Kresselack, but at least you can contact Interplay and get a replacement. In the meantime, maybe you can borrow a friend's copy.
