Redoran or Hlaalu?

Post by free_fall »

Played first time thru as fighter/mage, joined Telvanni, rising to Archmagister; also was head of Mage's Guild.

Playing again as f/m and doing Mage's Guild but, much as I liked Telvanni, am looking for a little different experience this time.

So, Hlaalu or Redoran?

I'm kind of leaning toward Redoran, BTW, but would like to hear from players of each, or someone who's played both. TIA.

Fighter? I'd suggest Redoran. It's definitely fighter-friendly. Hlaatu seems to be more thief-oriented, IMO.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

down in the bottom right, you will find small box with a huge list of places in-game. Scroll through until you find the name of your stronghold-indarys, or whatever they are for telvanni and hluaa. Double click, and you will see a picture of the stronghold. Now just add what you want. I'll give you some tips:
room items such as walls are in static. names begginning with:
in-interior
ex-exterior
furn-furniture
flora-plants

if you are adding to the interior of one of your buildings, use in parts, find the type that matches with your architecture type. Add in whatever you want.

If you decide to add a new building completel, you need to find the exterior cell, not your building name, and add it there, then connect it with a door/teleport cell. If this is what you decide to do, and can' figure it out, let me know and I'll give you some tips. If you want to talk more in private, I have msn and aol- briguy51388@hotmail.com and briguy51388 for AIM. I'll talk to you later.

Once you get the hold of it, it's quite easy. I started with a crappy addition to my redoran stronghold, and after three practice ones I have finally made myself one that I am happy with.

Thanks for the input - I think I'll go Redoran for the story-value.

One may think this way, of course, however i prefer more, IMHO, RPGish approach - just ask about the rules and decide what match more to your heroe's charater and morality. Say, thievish or mercantile - Hlaalu, knightish or conservative - Redoran, selfish and without principles - Telvani ... ;)
What proffesion (s)he has really does not matter, i believe. There might be some problems with prefered attributes and skills (requirements otherwise) to make your way up in the House, though.

Having now advanced from Master Wizard Fred to Arch-Mage Fred, Fred sets out for Ald'ruhn to commence upon his plan to infiltrate and, ultimately, wrest control of, House Redoran.

Arch-Mage Fred is now also Arch-Master Fred of House Redoran.

Took about 10 days of hard play, tho' I did the Daedric Shrine quests along the way, too. (Keeping my save from before joining, too, in case I want to do Hlaalu at some point.)

Redoran s/h is much nicer than the Telvanni one and certainly in a more convenient location, relatively speaking.

Okay this is how it goes:

Telvanni: Most Exotic (Basically Useless)
Hlaalu: Most Convienent (20k in loot too!)
Redoran: Most Storage Space (quests are great!)

So... I would say go with the Redoran, there are a few back and forth quests but most are entertaining. Even though I like the Telvanni and Hlaalu arcitecture better, Redoran gets best all around, even if it doesn't look the greatest.

It's a matter of taste. I, for one, found the redoran quests to be almost without any redeeming qualities at all (I have to go to Ald Velothi how many times?!), and I was really disappointed with the redoran stronghold.

I find the hlalu stronghold disappointing as well, but I very much enjoy the hlalu quests. Depending on which quest givers you work with, you might well find house hlalu to be the most moral house in Morrowind. Crassius Curio's overarcing quests have to do with putting a stop to shady business practices, while Ilmeni Dren's have to do with a literacy campaign and freeing slaves.

Telvanni remains my favorite... the quests are often a lot of fun (Spy Baladas, Theran's New Clothes and I Smell Ash Yams! come to mind), the rewards are great, and the stronghold is a blast. Okay, it's weak on storage.... but that's easily remedied. There are a good dozen mods out there that drop chests and shelves into it.
