Class Suggestions for 3rd Edition newb...

OK....Cruising along in Chapter one...Just freed the poor little animals in BlackLake Zoo...I am currently playing a 6th Level Cleric. BTW, I really like the way that Clerics have been souped up in NWN....

Anyway, I started Lawful Neutral, but have been doing good deeds and raising my "good" quotient. I was thinking that it might be interesting, from a role playing stand point, that once I cross over the "good" threshold, to start adding levels in Paladin.

I think that it would fit pretty well with my character...I have high Wisdom (17) and decent Charisma (15) and Strength (14)....

However, my question is this: is it worth it? Is adding the Paladin Class to my character going to give me good enough benefits to outweigh me continuing to add classes as a single-classed Cleric?

I know what it says about the Paladin in the book, but since I am still new to 3rd Edition, I don't have a real practical grasp yet on what certain abilities will really "do" for me....

All suggestions and opinions appreciated.

For starters, a pure cleric will be more powerfull than a mutli-classed cleric. However adding a few levels of Paladin (your ability scores are fine) you will gain some nice feats that the Paladin class has at the first levels but also be stronger in melee and gain more hitpoints in the expense of sacrificing some cleric spells and probably not be able to cast level 9 spells but then again it is your choice.
Do what you think fits your character better, a pure cleric or somekind of a "warpriest" with more fighting abilities but less spells. The idea though to switch to a Paladin due do your alighment change is very good roleplay IMO.

It is very good roleplay, and I agree exactly with what Demis says, consider your advantages and disadvantages to it, but if you don't try playing a Paladin anyway, an awesome class...
