Has anyone else here had "Assertion failed in ChVidImage3d.cpp at line number XXXX" error message. Looking at the official board it seems a lot of people with Windows XP suffer from this but I havn't been able to locate a solution other than turning off 3d acceleration. I could do that and will if necessary but it makes the spells look terrible. For instance magic missile is really nice with 3d but a big fat blob without, so I was hoping someone might have solved this (fat chance, I know). I've e-mailed Bioware but haven't got a reply yet. Help, help, help.
It's quite strange really. I used to play the game on a PII 450 Mhz machine with 32 MB RAM and it ran smoothly - with 3d I might add. Then I bought a new computer - 1.5 Ghz, 512 MB RAM and a Geforce4 to play NWN - which was crap BTW, so I decided to go back to BG2 and now I have to turn things off. Hmmm.
Hope someone can enlighten me.

Assertion failed... Win XP errors with ToB
Yipeee. After a lot of frustrating hours I finally solved the problem and it was really quite simple. It appears that most graphic cards these days are overpowered when it comes to playing BG2 nad the the OpenGL code is a problem with the standard drivers, so I updated my drivers and turned down hardware acceleration for my graphics card - disabling all DirectX related issues and now it runs smoothly. Yeah.
